Default A/C Compressor Question

Im about to take my compressor off and just put a new one on. i just had my ac redone. They took it out and put new stuff in it. If i take the compressor of im assuming freon is going to come out of the 2 lines? liquid or gas?

After i get the new one in i have to get the lines sucked back out and then refilled right?

Thanks just wanted to know before i started it.

The refrigerant is a gas. The proper way is to have a shop remove it. Obviously you don't want to remove the compressor without removing the pressure in the system. Once you put the new compressor in you will need to add the proper amount of oil to it. Then have the system vacuumed and charged.

okay so i cant get a warrenty on a compressor at autozone or discount because i have to do the dryer and expansion valve new by them and ive already had the expansion valve done by a mechanic so im not gunna buy the part again..?

So i think im going to go try and find a clutch at a junkyard because thats hopefully all i will need sence all my compressor has done was froze up and the pully wont move.

Try to find the Honda service manual for your car. (They are on the internet). In the A/C section it gives all the specs for refrigerant charge levels and oil amounts etc.

Alright will do. My main thing is can I empty out my compressor freon without breaking anything. do i need to go vac it out? I dont have the money to do it the right way , this is my 3rd time bringing it back for ac. In these manuals its not gunna tell me if i can do this because they all want me to do it the right way haha.

Yes you need to have it vaccumed. When you open up the system you introduce air into it. This will not allow you to properly charge the AC system. If you are doing it yourself then I assume that means you are gonna refill it with refrigerant from your local autoparts store, correct? Pretty much all store bought refrigerant has some type of sealant in it which will cause severe damage to your AC system. You will just be going in a big circle. Also no AC manufacturer will warrant a compressor damaged from sealant. Sealant will also be present through out the rest of the AC system and is virtually impossible to remove...

no i was gunna bring it to a shop that did my expansion valve. i did some research that said if you did open up your lines and air got into it they blow out your lines and whatnot then refill it. Idk though and im just gunna do more research till i have everything figured out. no big rush not like my car dont run without it.

That is incorrect. They do not blow out the lines, they apply a vaccum to the lines in order to suck out all the air and moisture.

true, most shops will do it the wrong way and just vacuum for 15-20 mins but the proper way to service the a/c system after a catastrophic compressor failure (locking up) would be to flush the system with a special solvent thats pressurized and like said earlier replace receiver /drier and expansion valve and sometimes on some vehicles you have to replace condensor because the flues in it are too small and will be stopped up by the shavings outta the compressor. sorry i rambled on for soooo long, im buzzing

Okay so today i took of the compressor i met somebody thats done it before and has all the gauges. And vacs. We took off the old one and there where no shavings in the compressor freon fluid. Good deal so where hoping nothing spread throughout.

He had a accord compressor. didnt fit. so we put it all back together an now trying to find a compressor. Might just get a used one. or get one from ebay for like 170 bucks new with 12000 mile warranty or 12 months. discount wants 270 for a new one. and i dont think im gunna go for that.

Let me know what you think. my lines are closed off right now so no bad crap gets in the lines. Hopefully this will be a cheap ac fix.

Wish me luck

There are filters available. One goes into the suction side and for the other you need the proper tooling to install. I believe NAPA sells them. Im not sure if you can get them individually as we have a whole filter kit. But they work great and are designed to catch any crap in your system before it spreads.

If the old compressor froze up and failed I guarantee there is debris in your system that will cause havoc down the road. A filter is cheap insurance.

Correct. OP this filter can be installed by anyone servicing your system. The other filter is placed in line and the line must be cut in order to install it.
