a/c compressor
Hey guys:
The a/c compressor in my Prelude is shot..I turn the a/c button on and hear it turn on but no cold air; recharged, checked for leaks and its still not working. So Im looking to get a compressor now..
My question here is, will a Civic compressor fit in the Prelude?
It's a big deal because if it does I can get the compressor not only for cheap but very easily. Finding Prelude's in the junkyards here is rare.

Imo I don't think it'll work. But you could still try it, just 4 bolts to loosen and look at the number of rib on the pulley along with the size of it. Also, make sure your old compressor is 134-A.

Are you positive that it is your compressor? I thought my system was FUBAR'd, turns out there is a common problem with the climate control circuit board in the dash. I took it out and resoldered all the contacts = ice cold A/C. My biggest clue was that the little light on the A/C button wouldn't turn on when I pushed it.

I dont have climate control..so thats not it.
The compressor turns on but doesnt put out cold air. It didnt do that when it was R12 and then when I converted it to 134A it still didnt work. No leaks, or anything.
I had a problem with the heat/cold lever at one point..it wouldnt go to heat, it'd just spring back to cold. I had to mess with the main lever inside the engine bay.
Maybe its that acting up again?

All I meant was the selector panel (fan controls, temp setting, defrost, etc)
But yeah, if your lever is stuck to the "heat" position at the firewall then your compressor probably wouldn't turn on.

I don't quite follow. You don't have a "real" one? You want to replace the one you have? Or you don't have the lever that controls the temp setting?

Untrue the compressor will come on, but if the coolant is flowing inside the car to the heater core the air is getting "reheated" after its been cooled.. this could be your problem.
Check the valve on the firewall, its the thing thats connect with your heater hoses. Make sure its closed so hot coolant does not get into the car.
