Blue Dash Light Conversion Tip
the best way to put the film on is to take the whole guage pod out and take the back cover off.....then you can pull the dislplays out, there is a thin plastic cover that is built into the cluster, and then you take the actual display screen out, just put the film over the display, use electrical tape on the sides, then put it back in....
this way it has no chance of coming loose, because the the tape and the pressure on it from the screws will be holding the thing in place....
i bought the LEDs off ebay, and i wish i had looked better.....
i bought 20 3mm ones and 10 5mm....the 3mm ones came with the necessary resistors....
i put 3 5mm in the ac controls, one in the cigarette lighter, and one 5mm in the "auto" thing on the drivers window button.....
i put 3mm ones in the sunroof switch, the dimmer switch, and the hazard switch on my console, i have a 96.....
firstly, i bought too many.....and also, i bought ones with convex tips, aka they point out.....so the light is very directional, and they look spotty on the buttons.....
they make concave LEDs, aka they cone in, and those spread light in all directions forward, these are the way to go, they would look a lot better....
as soon as i find my soldier gun im getting some of those concave ones, they will look better....
im also probably going to do the jdm climate control this summer, and im gonna see if i can figure out a way to get some film over that thing....should look real good.....
either that or i might put back all stock bulbs and leave the jdm climate how it is and get the tach...that would look good too....

You could manage if you were willing to file and sand the led's that you have... A little needle file to knock them down flat, then some 400 grit to polish them back up... You don't want a good polish, just 400 grit to diffuse the light a bit... Could even do it with them still connected.

I think there are writeups floating around, but if not its simple. You take it apart, add the film, put it back together. If you can turn a screwdriver and have a little common sense, I should think you can accomplish this. I changed my interior lights over to blue a year or so ago with no problems.
The color of the gauges is pretty accurate, however the LED buttons are obviously dimmed by direct light. They match almost identically in person. (I used blue acetate, not purple)

Bump for a question:
I've done the speedo/tach & the temp/gas blue, but I don't know how to change the bulbs for the climate control (USDM). So...
Am I going to have to remove the climate control, open & solder in new LEDs? Or does the climate control have small wedge bulbs that I can simply replace? Or is it something other than what I'm asking?
Help is much appreciated.

I went and bought the film at party city today, its called Cello Wrap or something like that. When i went to go take it apart and put it on i noticed it dimmed the light a little. Just thought i'll tell you guys. I decided not to use the film (waste of $8.00)
I used the Cello Wrap as well from Party City. It worked rather well. I did not use it by itself... I actually put a couple layers over the current blue film I already put on, and it came out to be a beautiful blue.
I'm having problems with my speedo/tach though. I bought some blue lights because I wanted it to be more of a bold blue, rather than a light blue from using white lights... and it's a bit too dim. I'm trying to look for LED lights for my speedo/tach now, but am having little luck.
Anybody know where I can find LED wedge bulbs that will fit?
**EDIT** I found LED wedge bulbs at https://www.superbrightleds.com

I guess I'll have to discover it on my own haha... anyway, let's see if anybody can answer this question.
It may be stated above or on page 1, I may not have noticed it, but have most of you used the same "Blue (or Purple) film technique" on the SPEEDO/TACH gauges?
I used bright blue LED lights to light my speedo/tach. The problem is, the redline and needle don't light up for the life of them... They are EXTREMELY faint and barely show up. I figured if I put the lights back to stock (green light emitting from the gauge), and use the same film technique, it would come out a deep blue, and the red would be a very rich, bold red, as on the gas/temp gauge.
Question summed up:
Did you guys use the film technique on the speedo/dash with stock lights?
Anybody? Help would be GREATLY appreciated.

take off the gauge face and cut out a piece of the film to fit behind it, you can even cut out pieces so that your turn signals are still green and the SRS is still red, its pretty cool.

Okay I just tried this Blue Dash Light Conversion by using the purple film from Party City. I got a roll of it for 35 cents on clearance. All i gotta say is PAIN IN THE ***. What the hell are u guys thinking?
1st off - You only need 2 layers, 4 layers makes it a really deep blue, almost muggy.
2nd - The Fuel, Thermostat, and clock are the easiest parts to do. The speedometer and the tach are impossible but somehow i managed to cut shapes and make it happen.
3rd - It's impossible to just lay down a sheet and tape it on and call it a day. You cut each piece so it can fit on the speed and tach. (You know that button u push to reset the odometer? - U have to cut a slit so it can fit)
Also cutting a rectangle in the film so u can see the odometer is a pain.
4th in order to make it stick you have to lick each piece and this gets very annoying.
Overall it wasn't worth it. Now by speedometer is messed up its sticks and i dont know how fast im goin. Thanks

I don't think you're supposed to put the film on the outside...that kind of ruins the whole effect.

i didnt put the film on the outside. I took everything apart. Im just upset with the speedo and tach. Theyre not bright at all and they look purple. I found another tutuorial except this guy has a different dash. His odometer isnt in the middle of the tach and speed like mine. Plus his speedo is in km not mph.
