Default which is better??

ive heard that the h23 tranny with the h22 swap is no good or not that great. Why is this, does it have something to do with the length of the gears? The reason is that i was getting some quotes for the swap and they told me that if i kept my h23 tranny it yould be like 700 cheaper. I want to do both the tranny and engine but that extra 700 would be a lot less expensive. If anyone has any input on this please help a brotha out. Thanks in advance

You guessed it, the H23 tranny has longer gear ratios then the H22. You will drop out of vtec when you shift with the H23 tranny. IMO, Spend the extra money and do it right.

what about lowering the vtec engagement point with a vafc? or would it just end up burning more gas being in vtec more often? what do you think?

you will absolutely be slower with the h23 tranny, it has longer gears, and aside from the vtec problem, the shorter gearing means better acceleration, because every time you shift with the h22 tranny, your landing much higher in the rpm range..if your worried about that money, then use the h23 one, it wont hurt anything, just dont expect to get the times out of your motor...its kinda like using an LS or GSR tranny on a type R...thats one of the big reasons the type R is so quick, it has rediculously short gears..peace

Actually if you can learn to shift perfectly you will not fall outa vtec. i got it down but now i have a VAFC and i never fall out. might as well use the si tranny while its still good. then later on you can upgrade.

i have an h22 in my acura cl and i am using the stock tranny (same as the accord) which has even longer gears than the h23 tranny...i have never fallen out of vtec when i am racing or running my car hard.....i was able to run a time of 14.7 using the long *** accord gearing and that is with a bone stock motor ...no mods at all..
the longer gears will be good if you do decide to go FI (nos, SC or Turbo)
