Best Prelude Coilover Kit
Hey I was wondering what coilover set ups you guys have. And im not talking about that cheap **** tokico, or koni crap. I wanna know about the good setups like Buddy Club, JIC, D2, Or K Sport. In your opinion which is the best set-up to have.
Since you want the best and not crap like Koni..

Koni crap?
I'd imagine my Koni 2812 setup would work better than anything that Buddy Club, JIC, D2, KSport, or Tein offers for the Prelude on a track car.
IMHO, the BEST setups would be something like the Koni 2822, Moton Triple or Quad adjustables, Penske, or Dynamic Suspensions shocks with Hypercoil springs. You're not looking at cheap stuff with these products for sure.
For something more budget minded, you're going to be hard pressed to find anything better than Koni 3011s or Moton Club Sports. If you want something a little lighter that's easier to adjust than the 3011s, then look at the 2812s. Be warned that even an "inexpensive" 2812 setup isn't cheap.
Now, if you're really looking for somethig cheap ($1500 range or so), I'd say go with used Koni sport shocks, have them revalved to SPSS3 specs, then match them with GC sleeves (shorten the sleeves so the coils don't rub on them), and have some aluminum isolators made. I'd like to see how that would compare to setups offered by Buddy Club, JIC, D2, Or K Sport.

Yeah, I forgot about Ohlins. For the highend stuff, I hope you don't mind spending $10k on shocks (e.g. Moton Quads).
If I didn't get such a good deal on my 2812s, I probably would looked seriously at Motons.
Does D2 or K Sport even make a race shock?

Hopefully I'll have more content to post up with some of the off season projects going on.
Hey Blake, do you ever track your car? A friend went to Barber Motorsports Park (in AL) this past weekend and said the track is amazing, so we're planning to go again next year. Maybe it would be a good meeting spot for some FL Preludes?

Yes, but at that time, I was planning to run in H1. H22 min weight in H1 is 2400 lbs. With the cage penalty, and the remote reservoir penalty, min weight is 2505 lbs. There's no way you're getting a 5Gen that light, IMO. So the 75 lb penalty is not an issue.
Now in H2, min weight is 2600 lbs. With my cage it's 2630, so the 75 lb penalty could be a problem there. Fortunately, Koni 2812s are not remote reservoir.

i have yet to put it on an actual "track" other than a drag strip. Its something that i would really like to do in the future but its not something that i see really getting into like i am with drag racing.
Right now, financially, i cant support a road racing hobby
i'd love to get to meet you in person billy

Run in the HPDE groups. 95% of the cars in the HPDE groups are street cars. Passing is strictly controlled (no passing in the corners, car being passed must signal before the overtaking car can execute the pass, etc.), and novices get instructors. They stress that it's not a race. It's to learn how to drive fast. Any racing activity and/or overly aggressive driving in an HPDE class will get you pulled off the track. All you need is an approved helmet and a good attitude. I'd recommend gloves, but they're aren't necessary. If you and other people would be interested, I'll let you know when we'll be out there once the 08 schedule is out.

This is for my daily driver. I also plan on tracking it a few times for fun but I was seeing what a good setup would be. I heard that JIC was good for daily/street driven. I wanted everyone's opinion. on what they think on it. Thanks for all the feedback though guys.
From personal experience
KSPORT
Not sure whats worse the customer service or the product
Koni/GC=
Excellent product combo with excellent customer service

What exactly was your problem with the Ksport setup you purchased? I have been dealing with them for a couple of months now, and I was researching their product line.
I kept asking them why their previous kits were getting bad reviews, and it was due to the bad batch of seals they were using in the kits, which kept blowing prematurely.
They have since gone with a better seal, and better shock body. They warranty their kits for a year. And are still replacing older kits that were part of that last batch.

Don't know where to start...They advertised it would lower the car 3" inches, it didn't. I paid more for "custom" valving and spring rates it wasn't and I spent an extra $150 needlessly. Third the shocks blew within 2 months and went threw the mud to get my money back ( I never did)..I don't care what issues they had or what bs story they give about "seals" they sold me a bad product and didn't act proffesional or with integrity. I wouldn't take there prodcut if it was given to me for free.
dunno if yall believe this article (http://farnorthracing.com/autocross_secrets6.html) but i read through it mainly wanted to read the koni setup which what i take from the read was all good. specially re valving them. im waiting for a set to show up for sell here on h-t.if used look into re valving them if new keep until wear then re valve
, but no luck so far...

That's the problem, the "big companies like ____ and _____" get all the reviews and people see reviews and buy them because of the name, not the actual product. Alot of people do that with cams, etc. It's not always the "best" product, it's just a well tossed around name you're buying.
Koni's 28-series dampers will run you about $900 a corner. Not exactly "cheap" on a DD standpoint but like 117 said, suspension can get VERY expensive when you get into more a more race-oriented combo.
On another note, I actually got to tour the US branch of the Ohlins building about 3 weeks ago with a friend that works there in shipping. I find it hysterical that the only two Ohlins places (not dealers mind you) are found in Sweden, and Hendersonville NC. Smalltown Hendersonville, of all places. Very nice place, shock dyno is amazing!
But back on topic... I honestly would trust what 117 has to say about Koni/GC seeing as how he's big on tracking his car and has personal experience with different setups and likes what he has. (Also I'm sure there are others with experience with different companies suspension...)
I wouldn't spend serious money on this unless you're very serious about what it will be used for. I wouldn't go much farther than something like a Neuspeed/KYB combo if the car will be daily driven and might see a track day or two.

Does anyone have any opinion on JIC? A friend of my has it on his IS300 and he says he likes it ALOT. And it seems to be more in my price range since this isnt an all out track car. Im looking for something under $2000 for coilovers and I wanna get the best for what I can spend on it.
Under $2k my best advice is to find used Konis and have them revalved to SPSS3 specs. You can have them shortened if you like (but not really necessary unless you're planning to run fairly low).
IMO, OTS Konis are not valved for the best performance, so while I may be a big Koni fan, I'm NOT a big fan of their OTS valving. Their revlaved shocks are second to none in that price range, but OTS not so much.
With the Konis, go with GCs. If GC offers the "baby tubes" (or whatever they're calling them now) go with those. They're a smaller OD than the standard GC sleeves and will work better with 2.5" ID springs.
As for JIC, the only thing I really know about them is the video of the JIC strut breaking on an autocross course on an Evo? Maybe it was a Suby. Actually I do recall a thread on HT that claimed that JIC doesn't revalve even though they say they do.
I don't have personal experience with them.
