bb4...
first off i rarely create posts lol but i figured this would be an appropriate place to ask.
i just saw a very clean bb4 drive by and it actually re-sparked my fondness for ludes.
the scenario is this...i'm pretty much getting out of hondas (or at least trying to for the umpteenth time) and i've been trying to sell both of mine (listed in sig) for the past month or so. i really want to get into something different...rwd anyone?
regardless of that i haven't actually driven my bb4 lol. i bought it as a project car and now i find myself selling it before i've even driven it. i just put new balljoints, tie rods, brakes and other random things onto the lude. i also did a g23 but haven't gotten the thing to run correctly because of the timing and ended up getting frustrated...i haven't touched it in a couple months, tho i think the solution isn't that difficult to resolve. it's got typical new england rust but a pretty mint interior.
so from those who own bb4's...is it worth it to keep it? obviously i'm asking a very biased crowd...just looking for opinions. at most i expect to sell it for $2000, which could start me on a rwd project. i know this is a very general q but i suppose i'm looking for reasons to keep the damn thing.

I can understand your desire for RWD. Sometimes I get frustrated because it is so difficult to hook up the power of my turbo lude. However, other than that I can't complain. I love all preludes but especially the 4th gen. I think they have very nice lines and just awesome cars straight from the factory..not to mention the tremendous amount of potential for cosmetics and performance. The best part about owning a lude is customizing it to fit your personality and make it unique....and just because it is unique does not mean there isn't support for it....everyone on this forum helps each other out no matter the problem. You should keep the bb4 project going man, when you are finished you will have something to be proud of and respected by all. I know I want to hold onto my prelude indefinitely.
thanks for replying...i definitely hear you on all your points. the 4th gen in and of itself is a pretty unique car...you don't see too many of them on the roads. or at least not in my area.
i was very impressed when i started tearing into my 4th gen...everything was so much beefier in comparison to integras/civics. the struts have 3 bolts on top instead of 2...the balljoints are significantly bigger...radius rods from the factory...more braces...swaybars as well. after the 4 wheel alignment driving it home was a pleasure...(w/the exception of it stalling out everywhere due to the timing lol). it drove incredibly well...nice and straight and solid. when the windows went up it was quiet too..haha in comparison to my noisy del sol.
if i keep it i dont know if i'd stay with the g23...i'm day dreaming about a h23avtec bluetop in there...
but then again rwd keeps calling me...agh!!!

I think the 4th gens are about the sexiest car honda has made. And thats is just the outside. The interior on the 4ths set it apart!
Then you have to consider how they handle... and that not everyone and their brother has them ie tegs and civics...

BB4? Don't you mean BB1?
Just curious why you want RWD? I hear that a lot. I have 2 RWD cars and my Prelude. I still don't get why people want RWD cars so badly.

lol i was waiting for someone to call me on that error. shows how into preludes i am
the last fun rwd car i owned was a fb rx7. i'm now thinking rwd for two reasons:
1) LSx engines. LS1 is a superb motor.
2) there is now a market for v8 swaps into lighter rwd chasis's
hopefully i'm not turning this into a fwd vs rwd debate lol.
but having never driven a prelude, was just sort of inquiring into how owners felt about it...maybe even versus a similarly equipped rwd car.

I know what you mean with the wanting RWD thing. I just recently drove my cousin's Z28 for the first time, it's only got the LT1 but there was no denying it's quickness (in a strait line). This being said after driving it on some back roads with twists and turns, it handles horribly compared to the Prelude. I just think you can have a lot more fun with a Prelude. They're funner to drive, more unique, and they're not as many of them around when compared to most popular RWD models. That's just what I think though, it's really your choice.
well i did drive my bb1 for about 20 miles all together...i was very impressed w/the quality of the ride. of course i was taking it easy so i didn't give it a good all around test.
i suppose if i fixed the timing issue i might just keep it. it actually pulled pretty well a couple times...even with the timing off. seemed to pull harder than my f22a del sol. that and the first time i got it running i actually started melting the pass side front tire because the rear calipers/rotors were locked up due to rust...lol so that was funny. i scratched my head and was wondering what the hell i built...tho it's only a stock g23.

this is what i mean. a few years ago i got owned around a highway on ramp by a '00 SS with an old man driving it. perhaps it's my lack of skill but i was driving a DC2 sedan with a built gsr (portflow, toda b's, itr pistons, jdm itr tranny w/kaaz etc) and then when we got onto the highway i got smoked in a straight line, lol. granted the motor was burning oil at the time bla bla.
i dont know if he had suspension enhancements but i got owned hardcore. at the time of course i was a stupid kid and never turned a race down...that and an s4 were the only cars i lost to

i can also say that i at times have wanted a rwd car. there are two reasons i keep my 92 prelude: the unique interior and 4ws. even though the 4ws isnt a huge asset, i love to see peoples faces when i mention this feature. the longevity of this car is amazing too. mine has 223k miles on it and it is still in great shape i havent had to make any major repairs on it in the past three years that i have owned it.
my friend had a 3rd gen 4ws prelude...that was fun for sure. the turning radius is insane. i know that the 3g had the more mechanical system, whereas the 4g was redesigned. i wonder what the differences are...
i think if mine was 4ws i wouldn't even be thinking of selling it.

yeah you're right. the 3rd gens 4ws is mechanical while the 4th gens is independent and managed electronically by a control unit mounted behind the left passenger seat in the trunk. ive heard that it was a several thousand dollar option that consumers obviously didnt think was worth it. i bought my 92 from the original owner who bought it as a leftover in 93. many people have had problems with the control unit, but often the problems can be fixed by resoldering a few internal relays.

so maybe it's a good thing mine isn't a 4ws model, lol.
i'm still completely undecided, but thanks for the responses so far, hehe. i'm just not sure if it's worth putting bodywork/paint and such into...making it an actual project.

i'm a pretty big fan of rwd cars, my daily is an '06 350z, but i still love driving my prelude. one of the most astonishing things to me is that the prelude (maybe only mine?) will oversteer if i come into a corner too fast. i've never seen that w/ a fwd car, and it's kinda fun, when done in a controlled environment (auto-x)

Well, while it is up to you, I would say keep the Prelude. If you value straight line accelleration and torque, then go for a RWD V8, but if you want good feedback and handling and a FUN car stick with the Prelude.
My dad use to have a late-model Trans-Am which was faster (barely) than my Prelude back then, but it just didn't feel good to drive it...I really wouldn't want to have one myself. Now an FC or something with an LS-1 would be another story haha....that would be a worthwhile project
Anyhow, I say keep it unless you absolutely have to have RWD.

there's the thing...it seems that the lude is a pretty good candidate to be an all around fun car.
then i read that the quickest car in the grassroots motorsports 2006 challenge was a 260z with a built (not even ...that... built) 350 in it...it was pulling 10.5's on slicks all day long. seems like such a no brainer combo.

You're talking straight line acceleration right? I couldn't agree more that a prelude is not the best choice for going fast in a straight line, it's made for taking some turns

hmmmm. well basically this seems to be the theme of the thread, lol.
a lot of setups for 4th gens i've seen on here consist of a similar recipe: h22a swap and suspension upgrades. this seems to be the way to go with the prelude...
i could get into that i think. i haven't had a virgin platform to start with in a while, and the prelude starts from the factory a notch or two above a civic or integra...so i can see with some more upgrades it could be a very pleasurable car to drive. hmmm.
