Default Backfiring?

Alright this question is concerning backfiring. My prelude seems to make a small at idle and when I'm accelerating in 1st, 2nd, and 5th it sputters. Somehow, my muffler is no longer connected to the rest of my car, its completelty snapped off the first flange about a foot and a half back. Any advice would help alot. Thanks in advance.

Fix the exhaust and that should fix the backfiring... if not. then check your plugs... I was running some cheap plugs and they burnt up and caused my car to backfire and sputter

Exhaust comes first, I had a rotor twisted a bit and was semibroken from its center, made it out of time and caused a backfire, ultimetely timing problems will cause a backfire (misfire).
