Default axle stuck in tranny/diff

so i'm replacing the pass. side cv shaft, everything is going fine, and once i start putting it in, it starts going hard. i pull out, grease it up a bit more and start going back in. it's not going in easy so i try to take it out and it won't budge! tried prying it off and after ripping the other side apart, realized I CAN'T get a punch through the whole differential.. so i quit since i was running about a quart low of good 'ol type o-negative thanks to the huge population of mosquitoes in Massachusetts. any help would be greatly appreciated. what is that cylindrical part running between the two sides of the differential? Am I going to have to pull the tranny off? My CV shaft was BAD and I was going to wait until I had enough time to do the cv shaft, clutch, ball joint, and master cylinder all at once, but if i end up having to rip this [freak]ing thing apart, i'm probably going to do the clutch now. please help me guys. i'm borrowing my dads truck for a day or two and then i'm screwed

it went in, so its gotta come out...use a prybar and hammer and hit it out of the trans, or if its close enough you can hammer a pickle fork between the trans and axle, but tap lightly or you could crack the trans case.

when you put it back in, make sure the splines on the end of the axle are ok. ive had a reman axle that was all chewed up...also be sure the circlip is tight enough. you can hammer the hub end into the trans with a dead blow hammer

anyone know what that pin is? i can't find a diagram of it.. also, can i move it out of teh way? I'm not really wanting to hit it in harder because it shouldn't be going in that hard and might be [freak]ing something up inside or screwing up the splines....

well, i had to use a prybar and smash the end with a mini-sledge so hard it was nearly knocking the car off the jackstands.. but it came out. i guess i didn't inspect the splines enough and if you look at them, they are supposed to be a bit flat on top, not pointed. whoever manufactured it didn't finish machining the splines and basically was too tight of a fit. buying a brand new one now for $70 and putting it back together..C A P will never get my money again...
