Part 1 - Someone who wants to buy and automatic equipped Prelude.

Part 2 - Someone who has a manual equipped Prelude that they want to sell.

It's a pretty easy swap!

The conversion is somewhat of a pain since the preludes for one reason or another have a hydro splittter, which complicates the swap further, I have yet to figure out why honda did this, only reason I can come up with is a nicer pedal? Anyway, you'll need the linkage from in the car(shifter assm), the cables, all the plumbing, slave and master cylinders, the pedal assm from a manual lude, clutch, flyhweel, axles? i think?...... and a lot of patience, its not going to be easy

I know I cant do it,(but thats not saying much) But the shop I use will do it for 500 labor. Btw, I wish the mods would make it to where when vtec is spelled improperly it makes a ***** just like it automatically does if you type in certain web boards and adresses/

Ok, this is going to be long but here you go:

4th Gen Auto to Manual Transmission Conversion

- Clutch Assembly
- Slave Cylinder
- Clutch master cylinder
- All lines and dampener from master to slave cylinder
Including:
1. line from master cylinder to dampener
2. dampener, bracket and bolts to hold to fender
3. rubber line from dampener to adapter on transmission
4. adapter and bolt to hold to transmission
5. line from adapter to slave cylinder
6. bolt that holds rubber line to adapter (banjo-bolt)
- Starter for manual tranny
- Drivers side CV shaft and intermediate shaft
- Transmission mount and bracket
- Speedometer sensor (salvage yard may leave it on the tranny)
- Shifter cables, holding clips, clevis pins and cotter pins
- Shifter cable bracket for tranny (salvage yard may leave it on the tranny)
- Shifter assembly
- Shifter boot assembly and shift ****
- Clutch pedal assembly
- Both switches for clutch and their plug-in connectors
- Brake and gas pedal assembly
- 30 Amp Relay
- Manual ECU

Bolts Needed
- Transmission bolt that goes through starter and bolt below it (two longest bolts)
- Flywheel bolts
- Pressure plate bolts
- Slave cylinder bolts
- Intermediate shaft hanger bolts
- Transmission shifter bracket bolts

Note: The list of parts typed above were taken from a write-up, so if you want the step-by-step directions on how to perform this conversion, please pm me so that I can send you the file.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention that this will cost you a pretty penny. That's why I decided not to do it and to just seek out for a decent manual, in which I will continue to do for some time.

This is by far the best and easiest way to do it. Not worth the cost of doing the conversion IMO.

No, the fuel and timing are pretty much the same, but the ECU will be looking for a transmission that is no longer there.

I hate to say it, but if you own that '97 SS that's in your sig you may find yourself in need of a swap or repairs if you plan on keeping the car. The best price I have found for a SS tranny is $1100.00 rebuilt, and that does not include the torque convertor. The cost of the swap is around $1500.00 to $1600.00 without labor factored in. A good read for 5th gen SS 'lude owners: http://hpoa.org/forumdisplay.php?f=11

But doesn't the AT ECU take care of that? Why would the other ECU matter?

The Prelude has a TCM (transmission control module) that has a data communications link with the ECU. Once the TCM is disabled or disconnected from the transmission or the ECU the CEL will be illuminated, and the ECU will run in limp mode. The only way around this is to get a manual ECU or convert the auto ECU to manual internally.
