Anyone using VTEC Controllers?
I'm about to install my VTEC Controller next weekend when I get home. I have a '99 prelude. Who has this unit on their car and how do you like it?? Significant changes?
I have an APEXi VAFC I on my '98 Prelude SH. It's cool I guess, but to be on the safe side, I had it installed and dyno tuned by a pro. Not sure if it was necessary, but I heard it was the thing to do. Good luck.
waste of money if you ask me, nothing wrong with the factory setting for the vtec engagement. its pointless to move the vtec up or down if you cant tune the car...let alone use a different set of camshafts. the apexi module is a little better because it allows you to adjust some fuel parameters. but still even that unit is almost useless without being able to have it dyno tuned.
It's not a waste of time or money if you have an SH. It probably is a waste for someone with a base and minor to no mods. Always get it dyno tuned.
If you can't dyno it, its a 90% waste of money. I have street-tuned some power from them before, but always picked up a little more on the dyno.
For $100(used) and $100-200 on the dyno, you can't go wrong.
I have seen double digit mid range gains and 5-7 peak. Not to mention you will have a bullseye AFR and waste less gas(at times)

I have one. I got it for 100 bucks on eGay. Installed it myself, and works fine. Still need to tune it.
One thing I wish it could do, but wont is turn off sensors inside the ECU, like the O2 Sensor or the ever so retarded EGR.
I also have a friend with one installed on his Mitsu VR, he said he didnt like it for tuning with turbo.

After install, I do plan on getting it tuned for max performance and hopefully save some fuel in the process, but fuel economy isn't that big of a deal for me. When you said AFR, you ment Air Fuel Ratio right?

Just don't let these tuners quote you $300-400 to tune a VAFC. They are either incompetant or trying to overcharge.
I usually nailed a VAFC tune in under an hour with 6-8 pulls.
as long as its not a buddyclub vtec controller its not a "waste of money" .... anything else requires some tuning. you can spend hours trying to do it yourself on the street or just take it to the nearest shop that can tune it for you.
