Air Bag Problem Please Help
My air bags were deployed. I bought new airbags and a new modulator. I plugged the new modulator and airbags in and the srs light is still on. How do i get it to go off. Do i have to reset the system or something.
the battery was disconnected when i installed the air bags for a long time. The car is being stored during the winter. The battery has been disconnected for months than i installed the airbags and modulator and than i reconnected the battery and the srs light was still on. Should i try removing the fuse than?
no, when it's an SRS problem the code is stored until a dealer resets it. Reason is, SRS is potentially life saving, where as a CEL is not. They want to make sure you aren't able to turn it off, so if a dealership or shop ever sees the car they *KNOW* something is or was wrong with the SRS and check it out before turning the light out. This happened on my friend's 2001 VW Golf when we took out the seat belts to put in harnesses. The airbag light came on and stayed on even after putting the old belts in and having the battery disconnected for a good portion of a day. They charged him around $30 to reset it. You're going to have to do the same thing.
I replaced my srs modulator. Isn't the code stored in the modulator? So if i replaced the old one and installed a new one would the car still know there is something wrong with the system?
