Default adjusting valves

I plan on adjusting my valves tommorrow, i did a search and have a few questions. My first question relates to this post.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by illusion &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> i didnt have a torque wrench and i didnt want to mess with the crank pulley. we just put the car in gear and slowly pushed forward until the cam gear arrows lined up according to the helms.
</TD></TR></TABLE>

is this a safe way to move the piston to TDC? I never thought of doing that before, but it would help to not have to borrow a torque wrench from work.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by illusion &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> i didnt remove the spark plugs to turn over the motor. now that i think of it, i probably wouldve done it because the site told me to, but i just forgot.
</TD></TR></TABLE>

The only reason for doing this is to "hear" when the piston reaches TDC, right?

Also in his post he made it seem like it was hard to accomplish without the honda tool. Is it really that hard and will i be able to do it by myself?

heres a link to the thread if you want to read over it.

Also one last question about my valves, if they are burnt or sticking (not sure yet) is replacing them the only fix? Or can i use some sort of engine cleaner like seafoam (c-foam?) and if so where can i find seafoam for fuel injected vehicles?
Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for the help.

sure fire way is to take out the spark plug, drop a long screwdriver down and rotate the crank until the screwdriver hesitates while going up. for piston 1, the flywheel and crank marks should line up. the cam gears will be lined up as well.

dang, beat me to it!

yeah, just pull the plugs, throw a long screwdriver down cylinder #1, and wait for it to go up and hesitate. Also, pull the distributor cap and the rotor should face towards the cylinder, if i remember correctly.

OT, but I know the cylinder order is:

O O O O
4 3 2 1

But what's the firing order?

I used this guide to do my valve adjustment. Should be pretty straight forward if you print out and follow those directions.

My question for loosening the adjusting screw
is do you put a standard screwdriver in and hold screw in place while using a wrench to loosen the nut??

thanks

just stick in a 19mm with a mini extension on the crank pulley bolt and turn it counterclockwise. the up arrow on the cam gears should be pointing up to be #1 TDC.

Order is 1 - 3 - 2 - 4 IIRC

pull the plugs to kill compression, makes the motor easier to turn by hand
