Default abs light

hey quick question. my abs light on my 96 Si has been on since i got the car. the guy i bought it from said that there is something wrong with the master cylinder n it would cost more than its worth to fix it and a a guy at the sears auto center backed up his story. Living in louisiana i dont really have that great of need for abs so im not too worried about fixiing it but the light on the dash is pretty annoying. so i was wondering if there was a way to turn off this light. is it the same as like a check engine light in which it can be turned off. any ideas would be nice.

why would u want to pull the bulb out? what if it's not working. Would it be unsafe? I been having my abs light on for a year already. It all started when a strong smell like brake burn when i was driving on the highway then the abs light came on. When i turn back on my engine it wouldnt be there but until i drive down the block it would come back on. Anyone know whats wrong?
