Hi everyone,
I just purchased a 1994 Prelude Si with 122k miles. The car is in amazing shape, with the only defects being the smallest spot of rust on the rear quarter panel that you can barely see. This is my 3rd car in about 3 years, and so far I love it more than my 2001 Grand Prix or 2002 Maxima I've had. It's a 5spd which is the main reason I got it. Both of my other cars were automatics and both of the transmissions were dodgy so I wanted a manual. Best part, I picked it up for $2k with a bad ABS sensor and slight exhaust leak. Other than that, it's great.

However, I think I've noticed 2 more additional problems. The power door locks do not function. Neither the switch on the driver or passenger door works, so I have to unlock and lock the doors manually. While this isn't a huge issue, I'm curious as to if this is common and what to replace? At first I thought it didn't come with power locks as the switches are silver and not black like the windows, but after looking in the owners manual, it didn't say power windows was optional, so I assume they're supposed to work?

2nd problem is a bit more serious. On startup, occasionally I'll get a nice cloud of smoke from the exhaust and can smell it's burning oil. Once you begin driving it, it doesn't do it, but you can still slightly smell it. After doing research, I found it's common for H22 and H23's to burn some oil. I'm gonna try changing the PCV valve since it's cheap enough, but is it something to be super concerned about? Obviously I check the level all the time now, but I want to make sure it's not a bigger issue. I never really get into the high RPM's so I'm not all that concerned...

They burn some oil when vteccing so youre looking for some valve seal job (hopefully, piston rings are the other option but that means whole engine rebuild)

Thanks for the response. Since that's too much work for me to do right now, I'm just gonna leave it. I'll just check the level every week and see how much it drops. Thanks for the tip

do a valve lash adjustment. It's supposed to be done every 20K miles, but chances are it's never been done at all. More often then not, if the valve lash is out of spec it will cause some oil burning, and adjusting it will reduce or eliminate how much it burns.
It'll also run 100 times better after doing the adjustment if any of them are out of spec.
