93 Vtech Electrical
I just purchased a 93 VTECH Prelude as a project vehicle. The speedometer is not working and I am getting a DTC 17. After diagnosing it I am assumng it is the VSS.
The other problem , (not sure if it is) is that the radiator fan is not comming on. I noticed in the service manual that it is stating that the radiator fan does not come on until the engine reaches temperature... Is this true? I have checked the relay in the fuse box under the hood and it tests out okay. I checked the fuse under the dash and that is good as well. I started it and ran it for about 10 minuites and it still did not come on. Is it possible and/or common for the radiator fan module to go bad. Any help would be appreciated.

Vtech is a telephone
Vtec is an extra lobe on the camshaft
Congrats on the lude.
Test your fan by taking it out and cutting off the wire harness and attach one wire to pos. and one wire to neg. on the battery, if that works than your fan is fine.
Make sure the VSS IS PLUGGED in.

Nice responce to Vtec...LOL.. Why would I want to CUT the harness off??? Think I will just make a test cable with come male spades. When I turn on the A/C the other fan does not turn on either........
just unplug the connector going to your temp. switch on the thermostat and jump the pins, if the fan comes on, its fine, if not you may need to check wiring or the fan motor.
I just tested the fan directly to the battery and it is operational. I did not get any DTC except for the VSS. If the coolant temp sensor was bad shouldn't I have gotten an error for that as well.
No, not really, I don't think that circuit goes to the ecu, so you probably wouldn't get a CEL, you would just see the temp go up sitting still in the warmer weather.

yeah it is more than two bars.
So if I disconnect the connector to it and put a jumper in the connector (the one in the thermostat housing) and the fan turns on I have a bad sensor?????
The other odd thing is that when I turn on the a/c the fan does not turn on for that either. Is that probably the radiator fan control box that is near the ecm..???
