Default 5th Gen Lude performance problems.

I've been asked to look at the car for a friend of mine, its a late european 2.2 vtec.

Engine runs ok when cold, after it warms up it starts to hesitate and jump on part throttle. Performance is terrible, goes ok above 5000rpms but everwhere else its gutless and un responsive. Felt like a car running with a big air leak but i cant find anything.

Car has been serviced, and a new O2 sensor has been fittted. No ECU check light, but i'm not sure if it is possible there could be error codes without it lighting the dash light? Can i check it with the same procedure as a 4th gen with a paper clip in the diag connector?

Any other advice or ideas would be great as i'm scratching my head on this one...

Thanks,

Mark.

Make sure you're getting good fuel.

When the car runs in limp home mode will it light up the check engine light?

It does seem like that is the problem but i dont know how to tell if you know what i mean?

Why would a car in limp mode run like **** below 5000 rpm, but run fine above 5000 rpm?

fuel injector cleaner, cap and rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter.....all the necessary tune up items. Might even want to seafoam the motor.
