5th Gen CAI problems?
Hey. Just signed up for your forum, and also just purchased a sweet 2001 Prelude SH. I am getting ready to order some parts for it, and I have read in a few places that installing a cold air intake on a 5th gen is a piece of work. Is this true? What performance loss would I take if I stuck to a short ram intake instead of a CAI? BTW, I just ordered a DC Sports catback exhaust from options auto salon. They have them on clearance for the 5th gen prelude for $240, a big step down from the $640 they were before. Just thought i'd let ya know.
the only "hard" part of the CAI install is cutting or banging the hole to make it bigger (no pun intended).
its an easy job. great job for a first timer. before you know it you will be swapping your own clutches etc etc.

definetly an easy job, even for an inexperienced mechanic. heres a good write-up so you can see exactly what the install takes. http://www.ntpog.org/mods/fift...shtml
Thanks for the quick replies. Yeah, I wouldn't figure it would be too hard to actually "install" the CAI, but I've heard, like shakes pointed out, that there is some modifying that has to be done to the engine bay to get the CAI to fit. I'm not too excited to be bending things in there to get it to fit. This was with the AEM if i remember correctly. Maybe others would fit better? And is a short ram a bad idea vs. a CAI? That's the way I'm gonna go if I have to "modify" the engine bay.
yea makin the hole wider sucked. but it's not too bad, especially if you have a sawzall. be sure to wrap around the rough edge w/ a slit hose so it doesnt touch the intake piping.
short ram is not a bad idea, you are just not gonna gain as much with the cai. not that cai gives you a whole lot of powaaaa either.

I think he was talking about the exhaust. If he isn't, that is expensive. I purchased mine off Ebay for $180 shipped. Installation for the AEM CAI is nice and easy. Just take your time to ensure proper installment if it is your first mod. Problems that came up when I installed my AEM CAI....
1) The stand in the middle of the intake does not meet up where it is suppose to go.
2) Make sure you put something around the edge of the hole after you make it bigger because it could cut into your piping.

Yes, I was talking about the exhaust for 240. Intakes I've seen from around 140-180. Any brands better than others? I've been looking at AEM and Iceman...
