4TH GEN CHARGING PROBLEM: HELP
Alright here is my problem and maybe someone can shine some light on this for me
Started off where i was driving home in my 1992 prelude H22a1 and my charging voltage dropped and had absolutley none. took my alternator out of the car and brought it to a alternator shop and was told it was burned up so i purchased a new replacement alternator and installed it in my car, still have no charging voltage after replacing alternator. started playing with the green plug that plugs into the side and if i pull it out then plug it in it will have normal charging voltage for a second and then drops off to nothing again. went and found myself a new plug and replaced the old one and still having the same issue. basically it is like something is turning off my alternater as soon as it detects that it is working and i am thinking it is most likely my ECU but i wanted to get some other opinions
Thanks

The brain of the charging system, the voltage regulator, is inside the alternator and would be worth checking out. They can test it at a local auto parts store.
Also check all your connections and grounds.

connections are all good and this is actually the second alternator i have installed because to make sure i brought back the first one i bought and got a second one and its still the same problem
Well, then at this point I would get out my manual and start testing each wire from the plug with a multimeter until you find the problem. If you don't have a Helms manual, it would be good to buy one or :cough: download one.
search for it
a bad battery can apparently expletive up your alternator. but like he said, check all wires. so what symptoms does it have. With a multimeter how much dc volts is at the battery while you have it running?(if you can get it running) how old is the battery?
thats a bit wierd though. the alternator is belt driven and internally regulated but its own regulator. It must be wires to alternator, from batter or the battery itself

ok well i have an update no when i plug the green connecter into the alternater it will begin to charge normally but when i turn on any loads like the heater or the headlights the charging stops and begins killing my battery. my battery is brand new so i am able to start my car but for some reason as soon as i connect the alternater it works until i turn on any loads
