Anyone riding long will know that a left turning car is the #1 cause of multiple vehicle rider death. It's not funny.

 

My thoughts exactly.

A couple of weeks ago, I was going to school, sharing lanes as usual and the guy in front of me got clipped by a car changing lanes, he wasn't even wearing a helmet, landed in the oncoming lane, and thank god no cars were in the other lane at the time, he got away with just a couple of scrapes, but had there been an oncoming car :s.

 

Looks like he was already down before impact... Speed was definitely an issue in that crash

Its not meant to be funny, its meant to be sobering. That is why you don't travel at high speed on city streets. You don't have time to see and/or react to those situations. It also appears that the rider wasn't wearing any gear.

His speed might have also been the reason the person cut in front of him. When looking straight on, it can be difficult to judge speed. Therefore, the driver might have seen how far away the bike was and assumed he was traveling at the speed limit, so the car would have had plenty of time to turn. This is why people say not to cross train tracks if you see a train coming, because it is so easy to vastly underestimate how fast the train is going and how soon it will get to your position.
