A couple of weeks ago, I was going to school, sharing lanes as usual and the guy in front of me got clipped by a car changing lanes, he wasn't even wearing a helmet, landed in the oncoming lane, and thank god no cars were in the other lane at the time, he got away with just a couple of scrapes, but had there been an oncoming car :s.
His speed might have also been the reason the person cut in front of him. When looking straight on, it can be difficult to judge speed. Therefore, the driver might have seen how far away the bike was and assumed he was traveling at the speed limit, so the car would have had plenty of time to turn. This is why people say not to cross train tracks if you see a train coming, because it is so easy to vastly underestimate how fast the train is going and how soon it will get to your position.

I took these pics while I was driving home on the 3rd of July, just now got them off my phone.
No helmet law here, and lots of dumb asses out since it's summertime. Look at where his damn helmet is.
