Schu's right...you have nothing to worry about.

On this bike..I've done about 4,500 miles.....not sure.
Overall, Not so sure....I don't keep track when I'm riding my friend's bikes.
In a sense, I'm glad that I didn't get a new bike because I'm starting to realize that this isn't really my sport.
Maybe I'll continue to ride a bit more to find out if I will like it or not.

Motorcycling isn't for everyone.
If you don't feel especially safe doing it, it's for good reason. Motorcycling isn't particularly safe.
Your feelings aren't abnormal. I question whether the sport is for me sometimes. I do get scared ocasionally. The upside is that fear helps keep my riding in check; the downside is that I have no control over anyone else on the road. Track time at least eliminates the "getting run over by a car" factor, but the threat of serious physical injury is still present as it is with racing cars and other such risky activities.
If you decide that this isn't for you, nobody is going to think less of you for it (at least, nobody who matters). You just find a different hobby and move on, knowing that you at least gave it a try.
Just keep in mind that the only thing you're going to be able to do 150mph safely in is a Shinkansen or an airplane.

what is it you dont like? Fear of wrecking or just think its boring? I havent read back in this thread too far but do you ever hit twisties? Just cruising around town and stuff gets old you need to challenge yourself to keep it fresh. Personally Id trade that 500 in for a "real" crotch rocket. It was a great starter bike but now that you know how to ride Im guessing its getting lame? It might be light and easy to throw around but theres no way in hell Id be trusting that thing diving into turns the way I do. And Im a fat kid so I need a LOT of trust in a bike to hit backroads with it lol.

It's not so much that I don't like riding....I enjoy riding it...but don't feel as safe as I would in a car built with roll cage.
I rode a couple of my buddy's cbr600s. No complaints of power.
All of this 'second thought thinking' occured recently.
I was approaching a left curve....and I notice a Nissan Titan that kept creeping out into the main road (35 mph speed limit BTW)...it was raining....but I had superior visibility....She was exiting out of a small parking lot then decides it was ok to STOP halfway in the road!!
As I proceeded with caution...I busted a 90 degree right angle turn into the parking lot.....I most certainly didn't want to deal with damages, insurances, and most of all law enforcement.
Since I'm still a new rider...I most certainly have reacted a bit slower.
Idiot drivers in Washington.

Well, maybe try riding track only. You could get a Supermoto to start racing and polish your skills. It's much cheaper than racing a sport/street bike at the track. And it's insanely fun, and it keeps you off the streets where you don't feel safe.
And since it's slower, it is "theoretically" safer than other forms of bike racing.
Or maybe doing some expeditions and trails in the woods...far away from idiot cagers.

An F2 has almost the same seating position and probably not a whole lot more power then a GS500.

I hear that. Im in NJ I know all about idiot drivers lol. Im not gunna lie street riding does require a certain amount of ignorance (for lack of a better term) to not be a nervous wreck all the time. It helps to ride with other bikes and just try to predict **** as far ahead as you can. Aside from that wear leather. Ive crashed both with leather and without leather and MY GOD does it make a world of difference if you go down. I dont feel right without gear on kinda like driving without a seat belt.
And about getting a crotch rocket, its not just power, sport bikes were made to be ridden more aggressively. Just the design and the head forward position of them makes all the difference in the world. Youll miss the comfort of the GS on long trips tho lol. A worthy sacrifice.

I think this is a great suggestion. Nothing like blasting through the woods on top of a mountain, where all you have to worry about is a deep puddle. Or rock. Or tree stump. Or deer. But hey, no cars!
Seriously, while I might limit my street riding, I will never give up trail riding. There are lots of great legal, designated places to do it too (ORV trails), which makes it that much nicer.
