RR
I know this is a Honda forum, but I see people with all bikes here. Was wondering opinion's on the 06 600RR. I've read some on line reviews and the shootout in the new Motor Cyclist Magazine. How do you think it compares to the new 2006's out (gixxer mostly)? Should I hold off for the rumored "redo from the ground up" in 07?
Street riding (never been to the track). Living in AZ, so able to ride year round. Won't be able to sit on any for about three months.

if it's your first bike it's way more then you'll ever need for awhile. also take those shootouts with a grain of salt. the difference between 1st and 4th really is so marginal. the r6 and the ducati got what they deserved though

if it's your first bike, and your dead set on the new 06, just get yourself a used 05 and save yourself some money. Unless you're like dead set on getting tribal orange (vomit).
I strongly advise against financing your first bike brand new from a dealership. Too many people do that and wreck their first bike, or decide they don't like riding, and now they're stuck with a whole in their wallet.
BUT, if there's no convincing you not to get a brand new bike, and it must be honda, then i personally would wait till the 07s come out. If you want one now, just get an 05, no need to get an 06 unless it's for color choice.

Mr. Furley... Why did you get a sportbike if you don't do sport riding? Perhaps a Sport touring bike is better for you, and in that way you don't have to be consumed on whether or not your bike will be able to "Compete" with other/newer bikes.

If you're already riding something now I would wait until the 07 or just get a used 05. The 06 is no different from the 05 (other than the tribal orange paint/graphics scheme).
As someone else said though, the performance differences between the bikes is so small that you really can't go wrong with any of them. Other than that maybe choose on comfort and style.

if you're just going to use it for daily riding i think the RR's an excellent choice compared to the other '06 600cc sport bikes. The gixxers and 636's tend to be more track oriented and the r6 is also a very good choice for comfort and performance.
i say it's a personal preference - they're all really similar, you're asking a honda forum so likely you'll get pro-honda opinions.
i love my RR

there's hype about it being the 20th anniversary of the CBR series bikes from Honda (original CBR Hurricane from '87) making it super awesome or something. We'll see if there's any difference, i haven't seen any hard evidence or reading that hints at the '07 600RR

A buddy started me off on a 01 f4i. I got stationed in Alaska in 03. Could only ride it about three months out of the year up there. There are no tracks up there either. Sold it before deploying, moved all the house hold goods back to AZ. I only have a year left in Alaska when I get back. Just lookinig at options really.

Tightly guarded secret but the buzz is fly-by-wire and slipper clutch at least. Kinda ironic that Honda didn't have slipper clutches on their sport bikes first since they invented it. Other than that who knows. Honda is very good with keeping secrets.

I'm hoping for something great in 07. just wish the 1000rr would get the remodel as well for the 20th

There's a 20th Anni coming out??? That's SWEET. Now I can jump on all the 04/05 deals when everyone wants an 07.
Because, as we all know, the 07 is twenty times faster than the 06... because it makes your wallet LIGHT!

new r6 sucks dude. seriously. read the review. they're ugly, it's a yamaha, they lied about the redline, look at the pathetic powerband:

triumph I can agree on but still wouldn't recommend for most. I'd wait another year personally for one. 600rr is proven solid and reliable. Real versatile and you won't beat one on the track unless you're a pro

Re: RR (Last For One)
for a track bike really it's a good bike but the powerband is way too high for the street. and I find it to be really ugly. plus my friends that have owned yamahas have all had real bad luck with them. early r6's had 2nd gear issues. so did the 600r's. they lied about the redline, etc etc... too much crap for me...

the new 06 r6 is pretty nice. I rode on it and the powerband feels awesome at high rpms. I would conisder getting the new r6, but they are the most expensive(used) out of them all. People are asking 9k and up for a used one. In the end i would still get an 05 600rr just cuz i liek having a fuel guage and undertail exhaust. Im looking to buy the 05 black/tribal model in a few months wehn riding seasaon is coming to an end and prices will drop down to as low as 5k.
