Default jackets

I'm looking for a riding jacket, but im not quite sure what to get. I want something armored, but a textile, no leather...im looking for a breathable jacket, that wont be too hot riding around town on a hot day. i like some of the mossi jackets and the joe rockets....any other suggestions for brands? know places to get them cheap?

thanks.

joe rocket makes some good mesh jackets with armor. I just bought an alpinestars bostrom, man is leather hot in the summer. I'd rather be hot then take a spill and get road rash.

I bought my Joe Rocket Phoenix 2.0 from Helmet Harbor http://www.helmetharbor.com/. Pretty quick delivery and all the prices include shipping (for the big stuff).

Actually, I meant to add that from http://www.motorcyclegearreview.com/ (MotorcycleGearReview), a lot of people have said that the Joe Rocket Phoenix is not as good as an equivalent one from Fieldsheer. However, just realize that the material does not really seem that tough (haven't crash-tested it). I never take my Phoenix jacket on the highway. The leather jacket I use is a little warm during hot days, but it's not noticeable when you're moving. Obviously you'll heat up when you're stopped, but that happens with (almost) any jacket.

Good luck with your choice and let us know what you end up getting.

I've seen one crashed phoenix jacket in person and... yea, I won't trust that with my skin. I sweat in my leathers and ride hard. There's no point in riding if you can't focus completely and tide hard. Unless you just want to putt/pose around starbucks. But hey, whatever floats your boat. The fieldsheer sonic and titanium air have the best armor out of the JR phoenix, JR reactor and Teknic supervent. I had a hand me down reactor. It was good. The leather was very thin though and wrinkled very quickly. Even with regular conditioning. I'm sure it would have cracked everywhere if I hadn't cleaned it as often.

Check out the Kushitani Air master jacket. Leather with perforations. Kind of expensive but worth the money...

Vanson Ventilator

http://www.vanson.com -- about $250 expensive as hell for a mesh summer jacket, but the Vanson quality is there

Just for short trips around town on hot days I have a JR reactor with hard CE armor in it. I got the JR for real cheap at http://www.newenough.com Anything besides a short trip, I have a leather Spidi two piece.

fully-perfed leather is actually rather cool when you're moving (above 5-10mph). I have a SPIDI mesh jacket, and half of it is still balistic nylon and armor, and I consider it questionable.

I don't see the phoenix as being all that useful.

Its about knowing what you are going to do. Personally I wouldnt wear leathers in the summer even if i had them, the leather would sit and collect dust in my house.

In the summer i usually ride with a T shirt or a beater thats why they make the mesh jackets. Although i do agree with you about the actual usefulness of the jacket and its integrety, id have to say its better than riding without anything at all.

good luck with whatever you choose.

$66!??! thats insanely cheap. Be careful and wear that jacket all the time.

I put it on for the first time yesterday in a while (it was getting chilly) b/c usually im to cocky to wear one. I came so close to going down on a patch of sand through a turn. All I could think about is what would have happened if i went down in a T-shirt.

Wear a good vented leather jacket and you will be fine. I would rather sweat than have to regrow skin. I mean you are only stopped for a couple of minutes. I suppose you guys wear half helmets too because a full face gets too hot.

Not only is it about comfort, its about convienience. If im going out I dont want to have to carry a leather jacket around with me, the helmet is there regardless. Now, I can understand if you are going out only to tear up corners and push the limit of your bike at every moment, than yes, brimg the leathers.

I had a friend go down in a T last night he is completely cut up. I have also gone down in a T, I wont do it again, but its your choice.
