Default I have a Problem!?!

I turn the key, engine start switch on...ignition. The bike turned on then turned off right away. I tried again and the same thing happened. when i would hold the ignition switch the bike stays on until i let go.

the headlights and blinkers don't work either. Also when I flipped the engine start, the FI light didn't come on and that noise that you usally hear(i guess the fuel injection) was nowhere to be found.

when I was heading to the gym, the bike was fine. When I came out 1.5 hours later this happened?!

Anyone know what the problem could be??
is it common?

I have a 2001 F4i btw.

thanks for any help/advice in advance...i'm so frustrated!

Has the bike sat for awhile? How old is the battery?

What kind of trips have you been taking? If the previous owner has not replaced the battery yet, then it's possible the battery s dying (most only last a few years). Some auto-parts stores will check your battery's condition for you for free. You can also use a multi-meter to check your bike's charging system.

trips have been anywhere from 5 minutes to 45 minutes

if the battery was dying wouldn't the bike stay on after i start it? cause I jumpstarted it and it was the same.

If the charging system isn't doing it's job, the bike will die soon after jumping it.

Good luck man.

I forgot to add, you may want to check the fuses. Unlikely, but might as well look.

just wanted to update in case anyone has the same problem.
took it to the shop last week and they said it's the engine on/off switch that was the problem. part should be in on Friday and they'll see if anything else was affected
