gp shift pattern?
i had it on my 954rr.. hated it, took it off and went back to stock....... all you do is remove the shift linkage and bolt the shifter lever right up to the bolt coming outta the tranny.... and then its done
The main reason you want 1st gear below N is so that in an emergency you can just stomp it into gear. If some ******* is about to rear end you at an intersection, just stomp on that lever and you're good to go.
My gearing is set so that I could still be ok if I stomp it down in to 2 so no biggie. Like he says, you get used to it really quickly.

I <3 GP shift. It's nice to have (mainly on the track) for many reasons:
1) More foot clearence
2) Most people can push down faster than pull up
3) Makes sense to have to push down when you're tucked down, and pull up when you're sitting up
4) And most important to me... when you're on the throttle hard out of a turn (especially a left turn) and the revs are going crazy, you don't want to waste time trying to nudge your foot under the shifter. With GP shift all you have to do is press down (even if your foot is cocked out a bit).
But... there are still some faaaast *** professional racers using standard shift patterns. So it's about preference too!

I run a reverse shift pattern.
IMO, it's one of the best mods I did (and I drag race). Much easier to shift, haven't missed a single gear since. Much more leverage pushing down than pulling up. It does take a little to get used to it, and some bikes ya can't just flip the bracket, ya actually need aftermarket rear sets.
From what I understand, the single biggest reason the GP guys use it is because they'll sometimes upshift when still banked over pretty good coming out of a turn, and your foot would cause some ground clearance issues. All the downshifting is down way before the turn anyway.

I want to do this on my f4i and dont want to cut the plastic porton above the linkage while rotating it. Is there another way or part I can use that doesnt involve putting her under the knife?
On any Suzuki really it's a quick little thing. Just gotta move a few parts around and you're done. A buddy of mine has it on his SV. I hate it. He loves it. Whatever.
Interesting tid bit. Mat Mladin runs a standard shift pattern.

I think I'm kind of confused about this. Originally I thought it meant "1 up, 5 down" as in........you'd upshift one gear, and when you downshifted, it basically downshifted 5 and put you pretty much back in neutral. I think I might have had that mixed up.
So essentially instead of lifting the toe to upshift, and kicking it down to downshift, it just puts it in reverse? Kick down to upshift, toe up to downshift?
