crv diff problems
well to start' i have an 01' crv awd thats still in stock trim under the hood. when i first got it i did a burnout with it and had no problems. then a feww months later i was in a terrible rainstorm. while waiting to turn at an intersection i launched to make the turn before the light turned red. the front wheels lost traction and started to spin but the back ones did nothing and i heard this horrible buuuuurrrrrrrrnt noise come from the trans side of my car.
i quickly called honda and scheduled an appointment to get this noise checked out since its under warranty. well before i could even get it there the clutch had tension for about a 1/4 inch from the floor. i stalled about 4 times before i could move it. my hydro fluid was empty and i could not **** into any gears the next day after i discovered this.
the service dept told me my master cylinder and slave cylinder were both shot. since then this noise has happed about 5 times since then. my question is what would keep my rear wheels from not locking up and spinning with the fronts' and what is this noise. im new to this honda awd stuff. the noise is kinda scary since i dont know if my clutch or something is just gonna go any time this happens.

sounds like the problem has been there. To do a burnout on AWD is pretty contradictory to it's purpose. Once it notices a slippage, it transfers the power. For you to sit there and do a burnout means something probably wasn't right to begin with.
I'd sugguest you go get the differentials checked out by someone certified to do so.
I'm willing to bet you grounded down some gears (or previous owners) and now the open diff is nothing more than weight. I'd even sugguest you removing it altogether and just having a 2wd crv.

yeah. i wanna get rid of my awd, i know it comes in handy but, its annoying. when it kicks in and out it makes a loud obnoxious noise, so ive been asking around to find out how to get it to become a 2wd.

i bought it used from the dealer. and still have a warranty on it so i will look into getting it checked.
when it snowed last winter and the snow was kinda thick, i tried to do a couple of doughnuts in a parking lot but it wouldn't do what i thought it would. it felt like the fronts were just spinning and spinning and nothing in the rear. its an 01' with 60k on it. original clutch. and now it has a fresh master and slave cylinder in it. and its made that wicked sound on launches even when im doing 15 and i downshift to gun it.
i dont really wanna go ripping out my awd. i would have bought a 2wd if i wanted one. i'm very handy when it comes to hondas but kinda new to this awd stuff. if anyone has any tips on how to check this stuff i would appreciate it

Have you changed the diff fluid yet? There is a new dual pump fluid... may help. Easy and cheap thing to try. Does not sound like a clutch problem to me.
Good luck
Good luck
ill have to check it out. i have not had it on a lift yet and i ve only changed my oil nothing else. looks like i have a project for the weekend. the thing that is racking my brain is when this noise firast happened it smelled exactly the same as when i burnt my clutch on my old da. burnt hotdogs! mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

It has clutches in the rear diff. It will make the worst smell when it burns... nasty nasty smell. Easy to change the fluid. Make sure and use the Honda fluid.
