Horn Problems or Battery Problems?
Hi, my horn on my 07 Fit is sounding very soft. I thought the battery maybe be going dead, but it starts fine. The battery is 12.5 V with no load. Is there a better battery test I can do with a volt meter? Thanks.

The horn on all Honda Fits is very weak, both on the GD3 and GE8. Most people who hate the "Meep-Meep" sound of the Fit stock horn replace it with a horn from an Accord, or several after-market air horns. I use a Wolo "Bad Boy" horn on my GE8 (twice as loud as stock).
With the car running put the + lead on the positive battery post and the - on the ground. You should have at least 13.2 volts up to about 14.4 when you race the engine. If you don't then you have a problem in your charging circuit.

Thanks for the advise. I have a trickle charger changing the battery. I also checked the indicator on the battery, and it shows charged. I don't think there is a battery problem.
The horn seems much lower than it did a week ago. Do you think the horn went bad? It seems difficult to get to.

If you have a GE8, getting to the horn is simple. Just remove the clips that hold the black plastic bridge piece down between the radiator support and the plastic grille piece. Pull off the plastic panel, and the horn is bolted to a metal post right in the center. There is a single wire that supplies power to the horn. If you buy a louder horn from a larger Honda vehicle, like an Accord, the new horn will use the same wire and connector. If you use an after-market horn, especially an air horn like the Wolo Bad Boy, you will need to use an additional relay to route full battery power to the new horn. After-market horns that need high amperage are usually supplied with the needed relay, and easy instructions for the installation.
If you opt for an after-market horn and get into installation trouble, PM me and I will help you through it. Relays are easy to install.
Woops, I just re-read your original post. For an '07 Fit, you have to remove the front bumper to access the horn. People who have done this a few times only need 5 minutes for the job. It is easy. I hate to send you to the children's forum for info., but there are many informative posts on horn upgrades on www.fitfreak.net. Use the "search" function, and use the words "Accord Horn" to find many DIY threads.

The battery seem okay. I took off the trickle charger. With the enginee off, I get 12.5 V. With the engine running, I get 14.5V.
Thanks for the horn info. I may try just to live with the low horn.

I the battery to Auto Zone, and they did a load test. The battery is okay. I found some youtube videos of Fits with stock horns, and they were much louder than mine. I decided to take the bumper off, and test the horn. I followed the shop manual, and did see a post by koolkevin on the fit freak site. The bumper was not too difficult to remove. The horn was bad. I ordered a new horn. My wife needed the car today, so I put the old horn back in, and put the bumper back on. It was not too difficult. Thanks for everyone's help.
