Ha HA, another design flaw on my Fit. Another joke on me, thanks Honda. I love being stranded. Well you see, the latch not completely closed on the rear and the Fit won't start. No problem, right ? Well, try getting jumper cables on the positive terminal. Not happening.

Without good contact with the grip, the car can't get enough juice to start. Now I've got the smaller gauge cables with the about the smallest handles you can buy, and dang if I could find a way to get a good connection for a jump start. The positive terminal is recessed down into a plastic case, too small to get any clamp in there. Stupidest thing you ever saw. Maybe there are some posts or terminals somewhere else on the car to hook up to, but there wasn't any mention of it in the manual. I am really getting sick of these new ideas and the nutty engineers who can't think things through. Retards.

 

Why not carry full-size jumper cables? They fit fine in the spare tire area in my GD3 and GE8. And, why not attach your little bitty clamp to the nut that clamps the positive cable to the battery post? You don't need to have the jumper cable jaws on the battery post- the battery cable hardware will do.

 

You mean the red plastic cover that flips up to allow access???

Naw, I flip up the red cover, I can't get enough juice through the jumpers on the small nut on the clamp as that is the only place you can grab with the grip. Very weird no one else gets this.

 

I've used my Fit to jump a couple other cars. Since you are the only one having the problem I'd say we have an ID Ten T error.

 

Suggestion:

Carry REAL jumper cables with normal (big) battery clamps. I suppose that is why no one else has your problem. The heavy gauge cables will also have less resistance and flow more power to the dead battery.

 

Never had any problems with my Fit and jumper cables. Maybe it had something to do with operator error..

 

I see what you are talking about, but I've never had problems getting other cars to jump off the Fit, including the one that had been sitting in my driveway for 5 years. Try removing the entire top cover. There are two little 'pinch' spots towards the front and side that will allow removal of the cover completely. The post is still recessed, but this does give a little more room. Just don't forget to put it back on later! I drove around for a week with it resting on top of the motor, not realizing I hadn't put it back.

 

When i went out this morning, battery was dead attempted to jump and charge battery with no success. I bought a new battery and the truck started up. I read the IPDM stuff and was thinking that was the problem, but I did the test and I am pretty sure that all indicators preformed. I also looked through all the fuses, no problems. Any suggestions would be great.

 

maybe you should close the latch all the way next time? then you don't have to worry about jump starting it...

 

This thread really seems to be a dead end. Those of us who know how to do this have no problem at all. Those who don't know how, can't do it. How to help the clueless? I don't know. Good luck to everybody.

 

Went out this morning, battery was dead...attempted to jump and charge battery with no success...bought a new battery and the truck started up....new problem now...

The dash lites up the 4WD, ABS, B-LSD, and BRAKE...The cruise set doesn't work and it won't shift into 4wd...any ideas?

I also looked through all the fuses, no problems (underhood on passenger side and in cab on passenger side...)

Any suggestions would be great....by the way 2004 Nissan Titan - King Cab...

 

uh. try a nissan forum.. that may help you out a little better than a honda fit forum.. considering the fit is a small, 4 door hatchback, and the nissan titan is a full sized 4x4 pick up, i really don't know why you are here..

 

Just jumped my daughters car a Pontiac Sunfire with the Fit. NO PROBLEM using full size jumper cables. Perhaps operator error?

Well, you picked an imaginary creature that is stupid, ugly, and argumentative as your avatar. You insult Honda engineers as being "stupid" when you can't figure out how to do simple things that other experienced people have no problem with.

Not sure if this necro post will work or what... but I'm having the exact same problem and yes I can jumpstart a battery... First of all, I need to jump my 2008 fit and I have a 2017 pilot. jumping a pilot with another car is no problem, but the other way around? Different story. Access to the negative terminal is not possible without removing large covers. I said no way I'll just borrow a battery pack. Fail! The cable ends are too small to reach the recessed positive terminal and slightly too big to get in between plastic pieces. Frustrated, I looked up this super old post above, only to find a bunch of people bashing the OP for not knowing how to jump a battery. Well that's not the problem! It's the equipment used coupled with poor design. My solution will be to ask a friend to bring their car so i can use my full size cables ( long enough teeth to reach the recessed terminal).
