Another D vs B question.
So I'm in a bit of a bind. I was wondering what would y'all do if you were in a position like mine. My find and I both have EF's. His has a B18b1 with cable A1 tranny(3rd and 5th gears grind) but everything is pretty much stock. And mine has a JDM D15B with Si tranny(works) Exedy clutch and Fidanza 7lb flywheel. He said he wants to sell his EF cause he doesn't want it anymore. And he offered me his engine for free(only if I give him mine so that his car will run). I know I want to go the turbo route. But Idk if I should stick with my D or just give it up and go with his B. Any opinions?

Alright. But, in a way wouldn't i get more power if i went with the B? Internals for a B can be found everywhere and a little cheaper than D series if found in the right spots. Turbo kits are a bit more expensive I'm sure. But, for power options? B is better right?

Run what you got, an ls is nothing to brag about, unless you truely want to fork over cash for a newer trans and blah blah, boost the d

This is just sad... this has been covered MILLIONS of times. Search and read up... if you would have just even searched a fraction of a second you would know what is probable and possible. It's your life - make your own decisions... If you aren't sure then ask your Mom.

Stock minus the turbo? I know what a ls is capable of, all im saying is run what you go, is he gonna give mounts, and everything needed for the swap? Is this a dd or a track car? Just to make someone thats never satisfied happy, do what you want.
And yes a d is pushed alot sooner then a b, but they still have 400hp ones, all depends on your pockets

I said stock as in oil pan to valve cover... They have D's a lot higher than 400hp as well. We weren't talking modified or built... just S-T-O-C-K...

Sorry - I don't PM.
You have a lot of research to do... Remember nobody was talking about wheel horsepower or a reliable car. It's been done - I have had setups of 450-500whp stock sleeve LS... I have posted my setup on here in this forum before.
https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-crx-ef-civic-1988-1991-3/another-b18-swap-boosted-2981302/
Then look here...
https://honda-tech.com/forums/forced-induction-16/lst-ls-t-turbo-b18a-b18b-setups-1323059/
Hundreds of pages of LS setups and numbers. You want better numbers start more towards the end.

Re: Another D vs B question.
So see this is where we differ you consider stock as in the block? I consider internals and the turbo that was listed on almost everyone of those as not being stock, or better yet factory? A ls from a 90-91 pulled and swapped, nothing done to it period, is nothing to brag about, better? Lol youre great man

Also, furthermore insulting your intelligence - a LS is any B18 that is NON-VTEC... They came in USDM Acura Integra's (as well as JDM's but I am not going there) years 1990-2001... The first 3 years were the B18A1 and the rest B18B1 - the B1 can handle more than the predecessor in the later version namely to the better oil pump. They came in all OBD from 0 to 2B...
You sir, sadly have no clue what you are even getting yourself into. Also, finish high school because you severely lack reading skills.

Re: Another D vs B question.
But still has yet to answer my question, how a bone stock b18b1( which was the original engine this was started for ) at 140ish hp pulls 400hp without a single mod? My miniscule brain cannot grasp it i guess.
For a man who always barks about rules, sure do like to push #6 to the limit. Lol
Btw since my car has a vtec sticker and its a ls is this what gives me the extra hp? I love vteck vtak vvvvtakkkkk. I mean dont get me wrong you do know your stuff but youre never satisfied, makes me question some things

I like the tuna here
Re: Another D vs B question.
D series on stock internals + turbo = 250 safe-ish HP.
B18b1 on stock internals + turbo = 400 safe-ish HP.
He's saying the LS is safer for higher HP with stock internals (rods, pistons) than the SOHC is with stock internals.
NeverSatisfied, correct me if I'm wrong or misunderstood.

Re: Another D vs B question.
I would keep the D15B myself, its probably just as quick in stock form as the LS. Stock for stock the B is going to be stronger and hold more boost, but parts are just as afforable either way, and you've only got one cam to buy instead of two! Also, IDK how it is where you live, but here D's are a dime a dozen but B's are hard to come by, even LS's.
On a side note, D15B's are stout motors stock. A friend of mine is running a Jackson Racing on his on 10.5 psi, still running A/C and seeing IAT's upward of 200* (scary I know) under prolonged periods in boost and its holding up fantastic. FJ Distributors offers some custom I-Beam rods and vitaras for boosted setups on these motors since they use different rods and such than other D16 and D15 engines, aside from the D15Z1 (all this assuming yours is the D15B VTEC).

Don't get me wrong - we aren't even skimming the surface... this may be why it's hard to grasp.

Re: Another D vs B question.
I understand you both completely, and agree a a1 or later b1 on boost would do damage to a sohc, but as i stated clearly towards the beginning, minus the turbo, completely forget about it, a normal never touched ls isnt anything to write home about.
Op if you do go boost please stay away from egay turbos and kits unless you want blown seals that bad.
