Make sure you prep good, scuff the material up first.

Are you painting them black cause they are fading ? If so a heat gun will bring back the black

Try using a heat gun, or using peanut butter, no joke. Unless you have special paint ( with flex additve ) its going to chip.

Why not just buy bumper paint?

You definitely need to get a bumper paint with a flex addititve. Just like mentioned above. It will start to chip because your bumpers flex while driving.

This is what I am doing to mine.

I went to NAPA and bought some grease and wax remover. It is like 16 bucks for a can but it works. Then I got a very very light scuff pad, a dust collector cloth, some car wash, and trim paint. Oh yeah, and painters tape.

Make sure the bumpers are clean.

Dip the scuff pad in the wax remover and rub it on the surface, then you need to dry it with a towel before it evaporates! You might need another person to help you with this. Do this over all the stuff you are painting. After doing this wash the bumpers with carwash, don't use house soap. Repeat the step where you wipe down the the bumpers with the wax remover, make sure you don't let it evaporate on the bumper. Then use the dust collector cloth on the whole thing to get any last bits of stuff off. Then tape off and paint...

I am sure you know how to paint, but make sure you do a whole bunch of very light coats. Thick heavy coats will increase your chances of chipping and stuff. And make sure you wait the time it says to wait before each coat.

I am probably going to post a write up with pictures and such when I do this. I was directed to this method by a paint specialist.

And if you don't wanna get that in depth, just wipe them down with paint thinner, then soap and water, rinse, scuff and paint.

Hope that helps!
