Default My crx build (starting from a shell)

I started off by selling my clean eg for about 3k and buying a running, driving crx as my daily driver for 500$ put about 300 into that one to keep it maintained enough to drive and for a new driver door since the other one was smashed into the car so bad that i had to unbolt and hack away at the what remained of the locking mechanism until it came off.
Then the derp who I bought it from claimed he was a "certified honda tech" and that the starter had seized bushings so it needed replacing. So I replaced it and then found out after replacing it that it still wouldnt start, so I assumed whoever had it b4 probably put a killswitch in it and began looking, and found it up under the dash in a cluster of wires. So then again tried to start but it didnt seem to be getting enough power to it, so i popped the hood once again and found out it was probably the rusted battery terminal that was on there haha
Sure enough replaced the terminal n it fired right up.
I was planning on making this my project car but then found out it had a reconstructed title so I hopped back on craigslist n found a crx that they only wanted 1k for with a y8 (vtec) engine swap in it and a clean title, body was a little rough but I just was happy to have one with a clean title. So I went to take a look and the kid took me for a ride in it n it ran like dick. I told him I'd think about it and they were trying to part it out anyway so a few days later I asked him if he'd take 200 for the shell, he said sure and thats were i started.
When I got it they really gutted EVERYTHING all that was left was doors, hatch, windows, heater/ac boxes and a really hacked to **** wiring harness that had an alarm, vtec, breathalizer, and what I think was the dpfi to mpfi rewire job lol, so I set to work on gutting the rest of it to get it ready to do a full paint job. Will post pics in a sec once I figure out how lol

This is what I'm starting with

B18c1 block I picked up for 300$ Took it to the shop to get hot tanked, bored to 81.25 since there was some rust build up on the cylinder walls from sitting in this guys garage so long. I picked up the head for 200, no cam gears or cam cap bolts :/ and gsr usdm cable tranny so I dont have to deal with the conversion for 250$

Gutted the old hacked up dx wiring and picked up a new 91 si (mpfi) harness from picknpull started to lay it out and get started on the rewiring.

Rewiring in progress shouldnt take too long only had door wiring and the wiring running toward the back chopped out.. matched color to color and ended up witha few spare green wires... Guess I'll find out what theyre for later lol

Figured while the wiring was pulled outta the engine bay I'd clean it up n prep it for paint

Pulled the break lines out (carefully) so that I could sand blast around everything and get it primered.

Thats the plan I'm going to do all the body work first then throw the engine in after everything else is to my liking.

At the moment what's happening is my blocks in the shop getting bored, I sand blasted untill I was out of sand lol and out of money aswell untill nxt paycheck or untill I can sell some of my old eg stuff. I want to go slow and take my time with this project my plan is to do an awesome silver metalic paint job for my engine bay and a dark kinda forest green body, with no molding.
I have about 700$ worth of gaskets, belts, bolts ect for my rebuild on its way in the mail right now and my next step is the get new 81.25 pistons for my block. And finish getting the engine bay prepped for paint while the engines being bored to size.

I'm in for this.

I just took off my old break rotors/caliper assembly + new break pads. They're from a 90 ef, but they'll fit the crx (4x100 rotor, and the calipers bolt up in the same spot). If you want em, shoot me a PM. If you're converting to obd1 I've got a b-series wiring harness aswell.

But anyway, how are you tackling this. Engine first, then work your way back?

Basicly I want to have the engine built up and ready to go but b4 I drop it in I'm at least getting the engine bay painted a metalic silver so I dont have to pull the motor to do it later. My plan is to paint the engine bay metalic silver, and the body a dark green with a nice wet sand/clear coat. Ether b4 or after its running whatever ends up happning first, I have another crx as my daily but its total garbage so I'm wanting this one up n running asap. My eta for it being drivable with managing my money through bills n rent n all that is around september I should have everything I need to get it fired up and driving.

Ok so I havent updated in a while, so heres whats going on I got my engine back its still in pieces shouldnt b too long untill its put together, the engine bay is all sand blasted out and ready for bondo n primer then my main focus is to get some suspension/wheels on it so i can get it ready to push into the shop before winter gets here then once the engines all put together I'll focus on doing all the body work on the shell.
Also, I got my radiator, brand new dizzy, blocks bored 0.5 over and got pistons to fit now just needa kometic head gasket to fit that n a few bolts im missing. Will post pics as soon as i take em, its coming together nicely but still slow n steady making sure I dont overlook anything in the proccess.

Small update, my tools got stolen out of my daily so now I'm having to go buy a whole new set of craftsman... Was stupid of my to leave them in there but maybe I just needa get more organized. Also, got the bolts I needed for my engine should have that together hopefully soon I got help from a guy I've been working with for years we should b able to help me have the engine together in a day if he's ever got the time to help me out, I'm loving every step of this process but again this is my VERY FIRST restore so I'm not the most experienced person I'm still going through school to get my ASE degree while minoring in auto-body/welding so I'm learning while I'm working so this could b a slow process but I'm willing to accept criticism and advice, at the moment I'm saving up to get some new suspension and some cheap stealies to roll this beastie into the shop for winter time so i can keep workin on it.
