Help with Tranny problems
hey, i think im havin tranny problems. It seems like its gettin harder and harder to get into gear. It still goes into gear fine, but it seems as if its gettin "choppy" going into gear, like its not as smooth as it was. i changed the tranny fluid and it didnt help any. I have 120k miles on a stock clutch and the throw out bearing is goin so im puttin in a exedy racing clutch. could this problem have anyting to do with the clutch, the reason i think it doesnt is because its always like that even when the car is off, when my foot is on the clutch or not. should i have the tranny checked out when i get the clutch in??? what could it be?? i hope its not expensive im runnin low on resources!!
its probably worn synchros which means bad news b/c it means $$$$.
the only way to really know is to pull the tranny apart. its not all that hard if you have a service manual.
if you have any specific questions on taking apart the tranny, let me know. i just finished my quaife install this past weekend.

what tranny fluid did you use? you may want to try redline or royal purple. after putting in royal purple into my tranny, it shifted much smoother.
Uhh, Royal Purple...
Both my friends have that and they trannies lasted about a year and now grind real bad and thier cars are now now driveable. I have it in my car right now and tommarow im changing it out for Honda MTF.

i just changed the tranny fluid about 1k miles ago and i think it just got worse, if it is the syncros how much $$ would it be to either get a new tranny or to rebuild the old one??

it says syncros are just $108, but i thought there would be 3 sets of syncros (1st/2nd, 3rd/4th and 5th/reverse...)
It might be cheaper just to pick up another used tranny. However, you may be right back in this same boat a year from now. If you are planning on sticking with the LS tranny then I would say go for the rebuild. That way you know exactly what you have.
