i have a 1991 civic dx hatch and am hving some issues with it.

the check engine light will come on while im driving after it warms up which up until recently never affected how it drives but now it will jolt when it comes on and it seems like it screws up the rev limiter. its automatic so if i dont revit to high i can slowly get up to speed but if i try to accelerate faster it will cut out. i think its cutting between 3500 and 4500 i dont have a tach so im just guessing. i was thinkig it might be the egr valve but idk. any help is greatly appriciated.

whats the code its throwing?\

pull back pass foot carpet and count blinks and that will tell you the code

 

ok so i checked the blinks. not having carpet made that easy. from what i could see the rder of blinks were 1-1-8-16. it also could have been 1-8-16-1 idk. any ideas?
