Default Oxygen Sensor Replacement

Hi there,

I have a 2008 Honda CR-V. A month or so ago, code P0133 came up- which is “O2 sensor circuit slow, bank 1 sensor 1”. A few weeks later, code P2A00 came up, which is “O2 sensor circuit range/performance, bank 1 sensor 1”.

So, I figured my bank 1 sensor 1 (upstream) oxygen sensor was faulty. I wasn’t able to get OEM Denso part at a reasonable price , so I found another one online- made in China variety but it appeared very good quality upon arrival.

I replaced it this past weekend- which was a pain due to the heat shield that was in the way. I also disconnected the battery while doing this- as I heard it’s good to reset ECU when changing any of these engine sensors.

I have only driven some ~20 km so far, but the car feels a bit sluggish. My fuel economy is apparently 15 miles per gallon- which is terrible. My average previously was around 10-11 city/highway mix.

I’m wondering if this will improve after more driving? I also re-ran my OBD2 test and noticed bank 1 sensor 1 was missing. I’m not sure if it was there before to be honest. Maybe it’s a bad sensor otherwise?

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Thanks

For some reason it's pouring fuel in to the motor. 02 sensor is just confirming that.
You need to get hooked up to a live scanner to see what else is going on.

So it’s been a week now, and my fuel economy has improved to about 18.5 mpg.
I don’t quite understand it’s pouring fuel into the motor? Should I still get it live scanned at the dealer?

thanks!

I'd seek/google out a local Honda independent shop as they are usually ex honda tech's and don't charge as much. And they usually know what aftermarket brands are trustworthy.
It's just too frustrating to try and diagnosis on the interwebs.

Just thought I'd reply to this- in case it helps anyone in the future.

Slowly but surely my fuel economy did normalize. In fact, with the new oxygen sensor, I seemed to have gotten about 5% more efficient.

Lessons learned:
- Do not reset the onboard computer (by disconnecting the battery) when putting in a new oxygen sensor
