Default HELP PLEASE

My 2006 CRV has been losing power for a while it is now whistling from the engine when I accelerate and the exhaust is heating up so much it has melted the carpet in the middle of the car just behind the passenger seat. I need ideas on what it can be causing it and can't afford a mechanic.. any help will be greatly appreciated I basically live out of my car

Sounds like your catalytic converter is plugged.

if you live in a state without Emissions testing you can cut out the catalytic converter and install a straight pipe. Unfortunately if they have emissions testing in your state you will have to get a catalytic converter. Aftermarket would be cheaper.

A word of warning though, removing the cat will leave you with a constant check engine light, which is super annoying. If you do get a replacement cat, don’t get a cheap piece of crap otherwise it will fall apart inside, and rattle around. There are carb-compliant ones available, from what I’ve read. It’s doubtful you’ll be able to find a new factory one, beside them being probably 2 grand

He’s stated that he’s basically living out of his car, thus my suggestion to remove the cat. You can also try https://upsw.com/2003-honda-element-...tem-kit-kit186
