What Spring Rates Do You Daily Drive on?
I plan on getting suspension in the future and wanted to see what spring rates are recommended for daily driving? I want the ride to be comfortable while still maintaining a performance feel. Has anyone found the perfect balance? What spring rates are you guys riding on? Describe it as well. Is it too bumpy or to stiff?Keep in mind i live in the bay and some of the roads suck...thanks

Re: What Spring Rates Do You Daily Drive on? (backseatDRIVER)
I live in the Bay as well and I'm daily driving on 10k/6k (~550lbs/350lbs) springs and it's not too bad. It's a bit stiff, but it only sucks driving around in downtown SF. Other than that, I would say they are tolerable and not too uncomfortable on paved roads. These are Omnipower Full Street Coilovers, btw.

Im on 8K/6K and i feel it matches daily driving. Wont break your neck on fucked up roads.

Thanks those were the coilovers i was looking into actually. It is ethier that or a koni/gc set-up with spring rates of my choosing. |
Re: What Spring Rates Do You Daily Drive on? (backseatDRIVER)
I've got Neuspeed Race Springs with the stock struts. I don't really know what the spring rate is b/c Neuspeed's website doesn't say but I do have a somewhat stiff ride but very tolerable. I've been riding on them for about 3 years now and wouldn't change a thing. I just think the if I would get some adjustable struts, it would make everything that much better.

whats the advantage to having higher spring rates in F and lower spring rates in R vs. vice versa?

Re: (backseatDRIVER)
It is more comfortable, especially if you ever have anybody in the rear seat.
I have 400f/250r ground controls w/ koni yellows in my 94cx, and it is great on the street (I never tried autocross). With softer rear springs you need to compensate by having a stiffer rear swaybar (not "ideal" for racing). My friend has coilovers with stiff springs in the rear, and when he drives over dips, I can feel the rear end lift off the ground. I rode in his back seat once and it was torture (stock shocks = bouncy). |
Re: (backseatDRIVER)
well in general high front rates and low rear rates (in comparision) cause the car to understeer. (front biased)
High rear rates, and low front rates (in comparision) cause the car to oversteer. (rear biased) now those are just general rules. there are a few racers that run the high front low rear, and there car's over steer, but generally the alignment is very important. but then again the alignment is very important with the rear biased setup too. But more often then not, most of the time you can get the toe zero'd out and just use your normal camber from lowering |
Re: (slammed_93_hatch)
10k 8k omni full coilovers

I drive on 10K/12K.... if I wanted comfortable, I would just take my GS400 that day.

I made my user name in 02 LONG ass time ago. I knew back then with my car that low it didn't handle as good as it could, thats ok cause i don't race around on the streets. My suspension now, is still a work in progress and consistently tunning. But its not a daily driver any more. this poster asked for DAILY DRIVEN SPRING RATES. driving on the street with a true 1000lbs springs rate on a civic is fuckn stupid. I never claimed to know it all, but i do know my fair share, and that setup is just stupid. Modified by slammed_93_hatch at 11:54 PM 11/11/2004 |

Look below https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif
Right now i have to much over steer. When the next race season starts I'm moving the 550 front and the 450 rear. |
Re: (toadolson)
Forgot
A big determining factor is progressive rated and liner rated springs. The difference between the can make for a smooth or not so smooth ride. |

Re: What Spring Rates Do You Daily Drive on? (chad)
GC/Konis (yellow). 325f/350r great for autox, but a tad stiff on bad roads. I'm in the baltimore area and the streets here are second only to the roads in detroit. I wouldn't go over 400, but it's all about personal choice. I'm sure someone will disagree with this. http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif
I have no clue how you guys ride around on anything over 400 lbs. There's no way I could do that around here. You guys are soldiers. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emdgust.gif |
Re: What Spring Rates Do You Daily Drive on? (phillycx)
