Front main. There is a seal where the crankshaft comes out of the "front" of the engine to drive the big pulley.
so upset i couldnt do it today cuz of random things popping up....anyways striving for the morning again....i dont have a torque wrench....is it crucial that i buy one 1st thing in the morning or can i do it by feel?
It seems like 90% of people don't use a torque wrench for anything outside of critical internal engine bolts/studs and the wheel studs. I do but, most don't.
It's important not to over torque them. You'll warp the pan. I use my non-dominate hand to tighten things like this if I don't have my torque wrench available. Follow the tightening sequence pattern and try and get them even.
If you're not comfortable with that, you can rent a wrench from most big box autoparts stores.
The EX alloy oil pan is easier to work with than the steel ones found on a DX. Steel pans are easily deformed by over-tightening the bolts. Of course in any case you don't want to crank away on a little M6 bolt, it will break.
