Hello,

First post here, hope I'm not breaking any rules.

I need to replace the engine compartment fusebox in a 00' Civic due to a melted "fuse port"? (where you plug in the fuse), it's the AC compressor clutch fuse; a 15 Amp fuse was previously installed when the service manual calls for a 20 Amp, and instead of simply blowing the fuse it was melting and taking the fusebox along for the ride. So until I replace the fusebox, I won't have AC, and I live in a very hot climate.

I already have a new-to-me fusebox in good condition to replace the old one, as far as I've seen, there's 4 harness connectors below the fuse box, 2 cables that need to be screwed in (for battery and alternator I believe) and the rest is basically having the right fuses and relays installed. It seems like it's extremely easy to do, is replacing this fusebox as simple as it seems to me, or is there something I'm not aware of that might make this dificult and warrant a visit to an electrician?

It's very easy so long as the FIRST thing you do is disconnect the negative battery terminal and tuck it where it can't come in contact with the negative battery post.

Don't accidentally complete a circuit!

I guess I can take the battery out to be extra sure, but what would happen if the negative cable touches the negative post? Or do you mean the positive and negative touching?

We'll detaching the fuse box leaves many loose connections. Some of which are hot. If the negative closes back to the battery, there is a high chance of an electrical arc, or burnt wires.
