Default Question: Can you mix the New Blue Coolant with the Old Green Coolant?

This is one not only for the archives but for my own sake since I was told it's safe to do, but the parts dept. acted like it wasn't.

I got a full gallon of the new blue.
I have maybe 1/3 gallon of the old green chillin in the basement.

I'm planning to flush and go all blue tomorrow, and technically I should not need anymore than 1 gallon of blue... but if I run out of blue by chance can I add green and avoid any ill effects?

Let me know.

Yes it is ok to mix honda's type 1 and type 2 coolants. The other day when i was working at honda i stumbled upon the service bulletin they put out back in the day introducing the new coolant and they said its fine to mix them. Any more questions let me know.

Oh and i fill radiators everyday. you will probably be fine with one gallon but every once in awhile ill need a quart or so more. At any rate you should have enough to fill the cooling system.

Hi I just want to check if you have the service bulletin number for mixing Type 1 and Type 2 ? I also would like to check as I accidentally mixed Type 1 onto my Type 2 coolant.

I’m not sure about blue, it might be compatible with green. I would do a full flush of the entire system anyways. Buy a bunch of distilled water- drain system, fill with distilled water, start car, drain system. Repeat until there is no coloration to the drained fluid. Then drain and add the colored coolant of choice.
Mixing green and orange coolant is not advised. They can congeal.

This is a 16 old dead thread. Yes, Type 1 and Type 2 are compatible and can be mixed.
