No
Give more info on car and set up
There's a deal??
I am running a 8.36lb chromoly flywheel on my D15B7. Run's better now then it ever did. 10lbs is not to light and it should drive fairly the same as it did before.

well it's a 95 ex that i got about a year ago with a bad motor so i got the d15b "about" 45,000 miles. kept the d16z6 intake mani. trani. and a short ram intake that was on the car at the time of purchase. last month my clutch started to go out so i replaced it with a stage 3 pro street with a 10 lb fly. 4 days after i was past the brake in period and was having a lil fun with my wife as i was fallowing her to a bolling ally and we hit a HUGE puddle. no immediate problems no stall or anything. about 2 hours later we leave the bolling ally and my car sounds like ****. take it to my regular maintains mec. and he tries to tell me it's b/c the fly had thrown a rod??
called my proformance mec and he said there was no way b/c the light fly was ballanced to tighter specs than the stock... told my regular mec this and he said that was not the case b/c honda fly's are internaly balanced

No way! Honda flywheel internally balanced....lol, that's a good one. So how does he think it's "internally" balanced? The stock is cast and machined to specs, but not nearly as good as most aftermarket brands. My flywheel came balanced from the factory so they did all the work. I would put my money on the flywheel not having a thing to do with throwing a rod. Big puddle and lot's of water= hydro-lock (or whatever) and that would cause you to throw a rod. Very, very unlikely that a flywheel could ever do that in the worst cases. I have only ever heard of stock flywheels machined lighter and unbalanced doing any damage. In those cases the exploded and cause early bearing wear. If it was so unbalance, the flywheel would have exploded way before it would have wreaked anything else. Just remember how fast that thing turns. Any major unbalancing, that thing would let loose real quick. I am also finishing building my D16Z6 and will be putting my 8.36lb flywheel on it and don't have any worries.

no.. like one of the other guys said, sounds like hydrolock to me.. only way i could really think of that you could throw a rod in a stock motor is sucking up water... which causes the motor not to compress.. then bye bye rod... if the flywheel were to cause damage it would probably be to ur drivetrain or main bearings if u didnt kno how to handle the increased accel ur car would have w/ that new part..

It's true. Same thing for MOST aftermarket fly's, but I have seen cheaper ones come unbalanced. If it's not balanced (usually there's holes drilled into it that are out of pattern from the rest; very easy to spot) then go to an automotive machine shop. They will balance it for you and it shouldn't cost too much. I am not sure if they have to remove the dowl pins for the pressure plate so it might be extra. I don't think they would, but you never know.
