Default error code on 98 EX...help please

ok my girlfriends 98 EX coupe just popped up an error code. i pulled it with a paperclip in the little plug and switching the ignition to flash the engine light. it flashed a code 77. i looked on the net and found nothing, but called honda and they told me it was something to do with the shift lock sensor on an automatic transmission...but this car is MANUAL and has never had anything done to it or changed besides factory adjustments done at HONDA.

can anyone give me any insight to this problem? i thought about just reseting the computer to see if the light goes away with no problems, cause the guy at HONDA told me that something could just be tripping the computer (but wouldnt that mean there is a problem somewhere). i know the fuel filter needs to be changed, and its fixing to get a full tuneup cause the engine has 125k miles on it and every now and then loses power and starts stuttering but then goes away and drives fine for weeks.

well to start with there is no code 77 for 96-00 civics but there is code 7 and other codes in the 70's so you need to verify the code before anyone can help too much... code 7 is tps related and 71-74 are misfires.. a code 70 is an a/t code wich you dont have.....

recheck the code
