Default Engine Sputtering

when i start my car up the engine sputters and when i hit 3,000 rpms it feels like the car loses power

i unhooked the battery terminal to reset the ecu

anyone know what this could be?

EDIT MARCH 10

so far i have changed

-spark plugs
-plug wires
-fuel filter
-cat convertor
-fuel injector cleaner
-89 octane gas from Sunoco (used to run 87)

anyone?

I had this problem with this with my old engine too. It turn out that i have oil in my spark plug from leading through the head gasket. Look at your spark plug

It's your ignition coil. Either replace it with OEM or get an MSD BlasterII. Bam.

it's got to be a bad coil or some bad gas ,try putting some higher octane fuel in it and see what happens

id have to go with fuel filter. Look at that first before almost anything else. If it hasnt been changed in over 30,000 miles, id go with that....makes all the diff in the world

yes a plug catalytic converter can make the car sputter. also you might want to pull the cap off your dist. and see if there is any dust, debris, etc in there, if so blow it out and maybe whipe it down with a clean paper towel and see if that helps. kinda hard to say what your problem could be but i hope you figure it out

my car was sputtering today, and i found out it was because my car's been sitting for 2 weeks with old 87 octane. pumped 92 octane and it ran fine again.

Did you ever figure out the problem? I have the same problem, and know it is not: the gas, the clogged fuel lines, distributer cap, plugs, or wires... the timing is dead on. The only thing left is the ignition coil because it seems to be timing/ignition oriented. It could be the distributer itself but it is pretty new. Higher octane gas did make a difference. The car runs well when really cold (right after start up) but once it is warm, it sputters at start and at about 5 thousand on my D16a6. Help me from your experience.

I'd either say ignition coil or ignitor.
