I have a 1990 Civic Hatch, went to start it this morn.....would not turn over.....engine would just grind as if turning the key when its already running......i gave it a few mins....same thing...any ideas.....low oil? starter?

 

starter not engaging properly with flywheel. it is either the starter [gear in nose not driving out far enough] or a bad section on the teeth of the flywheel.

yank the starter and check it out...

 

Yes I agree with Chris C, sounds like a starter problem.

 

initially it did engage...a couple of chugs and it was out.....so it does sound like i've blown the starter?

yep, if you are in a hurry and need to get somewhere put your car in nuetral and get it rolling and hop in and pop the clutch. park it in a place where you can do it again when you leave
