I believe you are talking about this?

Yes, it does help air flow, but really only have see them on track cars. It's overkill for a DD. It looks like you need to cut a hole in the rear bumper and screw it on.

If you happen to actually race your DD, then I dont see a problem with it.

Not really the coolest looking thing, but it is funcional.

I would suggest, for the gaudiness of the thing, which I think kinda ruins the subtlety of the civic, that you just get a cheap junkyard rear bumper, and put it on that. Keep your original for DD, and slap the ugly, but functional one on for track day.

Or, if you mainly drag race, just pull the bumper off all together.

He already told you.

Cut a hole and use the screws to attach it to the bumper. It's a pretty self-explanatory part.

This is a choice as well. I think the main point here is that those gaudy holes in your bumper really aren't worth their look. However, it is still your choice whether or not to put them on.

The problem with a part like this is it's not an undeoable part, ie: you can't just take it off if you dont like it. Installation involves serious trauma to your rear bumper, which is not reversible.

People use them because the back bumper catches a bunch of air, and this releases it.

I've also heard of people fabbing some sheet metal under the car to stop the air from getting up behind the bumper in the first place. Does the same job, and saves your bumper.

Interesting. Never seen that. I've only heard of people fabbing their own sheet metal thing. Nothing elaborate like that.
