Keeping this up for future references for people who [freak] up their y8's and swaps in a z6.
Ok so far i found out that to do this swap into a 98 ex is that.
On the d16z6 Swap the Intake manifold to the y8's so the fuel rail match the plugs. - You dont have to use the whole manifold just more gains with a bigger intake manifold.
(I believe on OBD2B IM there are little holes near the runners which have to be plugged up so there wont be a vacuum leak - Need Confirmation)
Put the y8 dizzy internals into the Z6 housing - This way you can plug it up to the OBD2 harness and the mounting points will line up.
OR
***do what i did, remove the connector retainer from both plugs by carefully pulling it out with pliers from the inside of the connector. Pull the wire out of the connector and just swap the y8 plug to the z6 dizzy. You have to cut the BLUE and the BLK/YEL wires and solder them because the z6 one's are bigger so it wont fit in the Y8 connector.
The z6 dizzy plugs are shorter so make sure you use something to push it up so its flush. All the wire colors are the same so just match it up.
Use the OBD2 Alternator - Because it plugs up to the Harness and the one from the Z6 wont.
**I found that the Thermostat pipe thing that runs behind the block on a z6 have 4 outlets for coolant and the Y8 has 3. So option 1 you can plug it up or option 2 swap the pipe thing with the y8's.
Hope this helps guys

I have no more info, I am subscribing to this because I hate Y motors and their bearing spinning tendancies. Swapping to a Z6 is a good idea IMO.

as far as i know all D series manual transmissions bolt up to D series block. When i had my y8, the trans i used was from an obd1 EX, swapping to an Z6 now i'll be using the same trans. Just gotta decide which trans to go with for your application.

*All* '92 - '00 D-series manual transmission are interchangeable.
*All* '92 - '95 D-series Automatic transmissions are interchangeable
*All* '96 - '00 D-series automatic transmissions are interchangeable, except for the HX CVT and the JDM 3 stage D15B Vtec CVT/Multiamatic transmissions.

Yeah, you'll have to put all the obd2 dizzy internals into your z6 dizzy so it'll bolt up to the z6 head..

Correcto mondo, and also the plugs are different between the obd1 and obd2 plug. Obd1 dizzy has a 2 plug set up vs a 1 big plug set up on the obd2. Thats why you put the Y8 internals into the z6 housing

if ur using a z6 motor in a 96 and newer u need a jumper harness to go to a obd1 ecu aka p28 if you dont u need to put a knock sensor on the z6 as the 96 and newer vtec ecu look for a knock sensor the holes already there and treaded u just have to get the sensor of your y8 and screw it in the z6 also u need to change the oil pump as it has a crank position sensor on the y8 and y7's and the z6 oil pump dosent have the whole to screw it in on. personally i would just use a jumper harness the only down fall is u wont pass emissions

Those outlets connect to the intake manifold, correct?

well on the y8 there's one that go to the manifold or head, i really cant recall, check back in few days when i finish the swap. I'll have pictures posted up n instructions!
I am in the middle of doing this swap rite now. Putting a d16z6 into a d16y7 (2000 civic lx) engin bay.
Heres what you need to do:
- Buy a jumper harness from here: http://rywire.com/store/obd2-d...acca7
I guess you could swap the guts from the obd2 dizzy into the obd1 housing because the bolt holes dont line up i found it easier to just buy this plug and play
- Swap Intake manifolds because there are a few differences between the two so just swap the whole thing and call it a day
- The y7 has a CKP sensor that the z6 does not and this will throw your CEL light so you need to do this: http://www.ff-squad.com/technet/ckftrick.htm
That shows you how to wire around it because it runs of the same pulse as other sensors so it will bypass it
- The thermostat housing tube that runs under the IM has a antifreeze line in a different location so you will need a longer (about a foot +) tube to make up for the slack
- Need to swap motor mount from y7 to z6.
- Yes the tranny does bolt up with no problems
- I am not hooking up vtec i am just selling to car so all i need to de is get it running i dont kno what else you would need to get that working
That is all i have found as of now. I just got the motor in today but i am not feeling good so i wont be able to get it running until next week but i will write back if i find anything else

You can pay 35$ for the harness, but i spent about 20 minutes re pulling and wiring it. All you really have to do is just remove the blue plastic retainer thing inside y8 (the z6 is white) the connector as mention before then pull the plug from the back of the connector and switch it up. But then again for people who are not familiar with how the connectors are made then i guess 35$ dollars wouldn't hurt.
i will post pictures later to fully guide people through this.. with options too.
