would you have to do a clear coat on the panels? or is just doing a few coats going to make it last.

im really interested in it looks good https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

I've used SEM and Duplicolor on my old E30 Bimmer. They both held up very
well in the rainy and salty air here in Hawaii only if you prep what ever interior
piece(s) for paint/Dye.

I used tide detergent (the one w/bleach) with water 1:2 ratio. Used to clean all accumulated oils and grime off. Then sprayed it.

It looked very oem. I used the satin finish of both brands.

Hope it turns out well for you.

im verry happy with the panels i took time on... but i did not take out the dash.. i got fresturated and just taped up the windsheild and painted it.. the paint is sticking on the vinyl but plastic on the other hand https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif the plastic i can barley rub off with my thumb.

and no i did not do a clear coat on the panels.. the color i got was originally gloss black. i did 3 coats on every panel, except dash i did one https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emhammer.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emhammer.gif

make sure you take the time and scrub them with rubbing alcahol before... cause some how i think there was some grease left over on the interior from my swap... and some parts came out verry bubbly and would NOT paint over... https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emhammer.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emhammer.gif

Classy grey or "charcoal" grey.

I'm going to be repairing and repainting my rear interior hatch panels here in a few weeks. Hell I'm not going to pay $400 for some new ones. Funny how your going from dark gray to black, while I'm sitting here trying to find all the pieces to convert my interior from light gray to dark gray. I would have just painted my pieces black, but the previous owner must have been upset one day and took a screwdriver to all the pieces in the car and tore the vinyl on most of the parts, even the dash. My door panels are mint though and I would have just painted those, buy I'm adding power windows, locks, and mirrors to my hatch. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif Good luck with the paint bro.

lowfast 12-10-2007 09:19 AM

I'm telling you. Use SEM's, you will not bne dissapointed if i had a digi camra. you would prolly shit. It looks that good. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

92yellowEG 12-10-2007 09:48 AM

That stuff worked ok for me to when I did my rer panels in my EG but over time as they got scratched it came off like paint. SO I just re did all my interior with some dye from one of my mustang mags and it works great more expensive but you can actually see it soak in and they offer paint for hard platic and vinyl in th same color so it will stick well to all surfaces! The only thing I haven't done is my steering wheel has anybody done one and if so how long did it last?

LexLuthor 12-10-2007 01:32 PM

Looks good. I've been wanting to know if this could come out well for my EM1 as I know I could source a black dash and front doorcards from a 3dr hatch, but its the rear that was always the stumbling block.

Will be interesting to see how this finishes up. Looks like the panels were originally black from the factory cos they look like they still have the texture to them.

looks good but i dont really think it will last. I always just stick with OEM. you can tell them apart because the painted ones gives a more shiner look.

Re: Re: (dthug)

yeah i know... but considering there are no actual black interiors... their al dark grey

Re: Re: (Jbur074)

so far its been rainey and shitty, but the rain has not damaged any part of it, the only part was the floor mats and it was where i put my foot for clutch gas and brake are somewhat fading...

Re: converting ek grey interior to black (Jbur074)

someone else used this same stuff on their whole car....carpets, seats, dash. he took his interior from tan to black and it looked pretty good. i decided to do it after reading his posts. I was just going to do my carpets though. I went out and bought a carpet shampooer, and the dupli-color, and scotch guard "carpet" and set out on my DIY. I first removed my entire interior including trim. shampooed the shit outa my carpets, and let it dry thuroughly. i then vaccumed all of my carpet in the same direction and applied the dupli-color. I did four coats eventually, one after each dry and re-vac. each re-vac i did it in another direction. let it dry, applied two coats of scotch guard ( did same thing to gray floor mats). Man it looked soooooo money. i was awed by how good it looked. i put my car all back together and was stoked...mainly because it all went back together. BUT sadly after about a week, my floor mats have become this grose blackish gray color and it looks like shit. luckily it's just the mats and the carpet underneath still looks nice. im going to get CTR mats anyways so it doesn't bother me. BUT be warned that i did this as best as i thikn it could have been done and it still didn't work on carpet. Dupli-color is not dye, it is paint. It does not, i repeat it does not stand up to carpets. thats my rant....just look for another product if you want to dye your carpet.
