converting ek grey interior to black
Hey ive seen this post a few times about people wanting to convert their interoir to black... im pretty sure there is not replacement oem civic parts that are black.
so i went to orileys and got some dupi-color gloss black vinyl and fabric spray "die" so far i have only torn out the rear seats and panels to paint them. and so far this is how they look https://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h...4/P1010354.jpg https://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h...4/P1010353.jpg https://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h...4/P1010348.jpg https://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h...4/P1010352.jpg https://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h...4/P1010351.jpg https://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h...4/P1010350.jpg https://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h...4/P1010346.jpg now the seats dont crack, or smudge and the panels i cannot seem to scratch with normal items. However, the seats are not as soft as they where they are kind of "crunchy" and they smell, but im assuming they just need to be broken in and aired out. ill keep updating as i go throughout the car.. next up door pannels, dash, floor mats (not doing carpet) all pillars, and headliner! |

Re: converting ek grey interior to black (ukdmegg5)
yeah it was only 3 cans at 6.49 a can to do that.. and i still have half a can.. i only threw 2 coats on seats and 3 on the panels..
i was honestly not expecting them to look that great but they came out extreamly well! |
I heard that paint chips pretty easy. Look into SEM's if you havent finished your car yet.

Re: converting ek grey interior to black (Jbur074)
let me know how it holds on the seats. i really wanted to do mine but I was undure on how the dye on the seats would over time and hot/cold weather
|
Re: converting ek grey interior to black (built562)
well today in texas its like 60s so idk how it will hold up in cold weather and idk if i ever will.. but so far it seems to be holding pretty well. the panels i tried to chip with my fingernail, rubbing it with a dry sponge, and its not seeming to do anything i guess if its applied lightly and gone over and over and over... ill keep updates going on it for yal

Re: (ek forever guy)

im going to disassemble everything in the dash, and paint it. also going to throw some amber tint to change my climate control and everything.. |
Re: (Jbur074)
For your steering wheel, i recommend getting a black s2k steering wheel.
I've found mint condition ones on http://www.car-part.com for $100-150 with a working airbag. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif |
Re: (ek forever guy)
ehhh not a big fan.. i think i might go all out and get a ctr momo wheel.. or some NRG one with red stitching... im getting recardo knock off seats and the type r shift boot.. gotta have the steeringwheel match yo https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

Re: converting ek grey interior to black (darksolguy)
well i got finished today..but my camera was dead so ill take pictures tommrow. the final result did not come out quite like i wanted it too... but then again i did get kind of sloppy with it and rushed myself. but im still pretty proud of it. i didnt paint my front seats because ive got new seats coming soon. and i lfet my steering wheel cause i got one coming soon too.
so ill update yall tommrow oh and i also changed my climate control to amber while it was all out.. came out REALLY good! |
When you do the seats make sure you let them dry then brush them with a stiff bristle scrub brush. It will knock all the loose stuff off the fabric. Do several coats in that manner.
|
Re: (THE GUY)
yeah thats what i did for the rear seats, im not painting the front tho... im getting black ones pretty soon..
