Default CEL on checked code doesnt blink, stays solid???

My car 97 ej6 dx with i/h/e on d16y7. About two weeks ago replace the IM with a manual d16y8 IM. Using my TB with the Three wire IVAC, mini-swap coming soon. Today just driving CEL comes on. So I check it with a wire, like the posts says and the CEL doesn't blink but stays solid. So turn the car to the off and remove wire turn key to on and CEL stays on. What does a solid CEL mean? is it P000 meaning no failures? Whats some possibilities?

Thanks

I believe... and i hope im wrong, that if the CEL stays on, its a bad ECU.

I did reset it by pulling the fuse for a couple hours and that seemed to do the trick, no CEL. If it comes back with the same result would that definitly be a good sign of bad ecu?

If you resetted it and it doesnt come back then your fine. It probably read a code that went away but the light stayed.

I'm also having a weird problem like this. I dont get a CEL w/ the car on normally. But once i jump the wires and start the car, the CEL stays on solid until the wire is removed.

anyone know if this is a sign of a bad ecu? Or am i jumping the wrong plug... cuz theres 2.

Try messing with the harness going into the ecu you could have a bad connection with one or more of the pins going into the ecu. Just try messing with it pushing all the plugs back into to comp. (Mine threw the same code a solid light and took me a day or two to troubleshoot it but alls it was was a loose harness ; I was happy but pissed cause i had done alot of work to determine this)

when the cel is not lit and you jump the connector...the cel should light up solid...which means no codes are in memory. when you trip a cel light then jump the connector...it should flash a code...if no code try to get a scanner to plug into the data link connector to check for codes.

Paper clip is ok to use.

I dont have a CEL to begin w/ on my car. but i just jumped the connector to see if it would flash and then it stays solid. So this means that my car isn't throwing a cel?

Did you read what you just said: I don't have a CEL to begin w/ on the car ...... So this means that my car isn't throwing a CEL?

You only trip the connector if you are throwing a CEL while driving/engine running. Why would you check your CEL codes if there is nothing for the ecu to report bad?
