Governer on 97 EJ8?
Ok so....yesterday on my way home from work I partook in a little good old fashion hooning. Well while I was doing so my speedo read a little over 120 (Im pretty sure its off though) and then my car gave a soft jolt that threw me off a little bit almost like my motor cut out or I hit the rev limiter and dropped a little bit in speed. I'm assuming this would be the governor correct? I looked at my GPS afterwards and it said the max speed had been 116 so I'm assuming that was my actual speed. Another question is how would you go about removing the governor? Im assuming I would have to have the ECU chipped or something but im curious of my options. I'm running a D15B with auto trans, CAI and DC headers, else whys its bone stock.

Our slow *** cars don't have speed limiters.
Quit going 120+mph in an economy car on the street. Good way to die in a fiery auto crash. Any idea what your street tires look like at 120mph?

Yes about four inches wide I'm aware of how stupid it can be to do what I was doing I was just in an antsy mood and felt like gunning it. Idiocy aside, any idea what the jolt I felt was if there is no limiter?

If your car isn't damaged, I don't see any reason why the jolt couldn't have been that. It also could have been your front suspension picking up off of the ground, a gust of wind under the car catching in your bumper.
At 120mph you introduce a whole lot of physics the car wasn't remotely designed to handle.

Yes it was a notoriously windy area I was going through at the time.....that's a rather scary thought you've put out there.....I wasn't aware it could actually be that easy to get so much lift in something like a Honda. And now that you mention it it the way it felt could have been compared to something like a gust of wind.

Yes and unfortunately none of these things cross my mind when I see a nice open stretch on the freeway and gun it...knock on wood I've been lucky enough not to have had an incident with either of the Hondas I've had and I've pushed both of them well over 100 multiple times. So what is the most effective method of decreasing the possibility of having this happening again? Besides the obvious one of just don't do it.

lowering your car can/may reduce under car drag by reducing the clearance to the ground thusly reducing how much wind can flow under your car
remember just because your car isn't at max RPM doesn't mean it can go further, and as said above if it is windy your going 120 mph and winds against you are lets say 30 mph, your car is working to produce 150 mph worth of force not 120
that jolt might be lift, or it maybe your engine hitting "the wall"

Here's an idea, lets try not to kill ourselves and others by driving 120mph on a public road. Problem solved. It's people like you that simultaneously make health insurance and car insurance more expensive for the rest of us.

I don't think there is a governor. I remember in my d-series a few years ago it stayed at about 120(freeway) still trying to gain but just couldn't push any more power. No cut out or loss of power it just stayed at 120 for a good 8 seconds lol.

Well there are many different types of people in this world. Yeah its dumb but if I die a painful death, then I die that way. Many of my friends and even some of pets died a fu*ked up way. If they can take it then so can I. 120+ is dumb is on a public road but not on the highway.

I don't care if you die by your own decisions. Driving stupid on a public road puts others at risk, and that is not okay. By all means. Buy your own 3 mile strip of asphalt and go to town. I default to freedom, just not at the expense of the safety of others.
By the way, a highway is a public road.
