Default Car still won't start

92 dx sedan won't start.. will crank all day but wont turn over. seems like its not getting fuel.

most symptoms pointed to the main relay so I cold-soldered the dry joints and it still didn't work. so I got a different main relay out of a junkyard and it didn't work... tried soldering the dry joints on that one also and still won't start..

ideas? i hear honda fuel pumps are near flawless, otherwise i'd think my pump is dead.

did you check to see if you have spark? Do a search b/c this happens to a lot of ppl and usually ends up being the coil or the ICM

Listen for the fuel pump to prime before you try and start it. If you cant hear it then something is wrong with the power to your pump. If you can hear it then its gonna be spark or timing. Pull a plug, attach it to a plug wire(coming from dist. cap) get some one to turn it over while you hold the ground of the plug against the valve cover. Look for spark. Go from there. Keep us posted.

How loud are they usually in a civic? In some car's I've noticed theyre louder than others.. I don't hear it when I turn the key, but there are so many other beeps and the shifter clicking/unlocking that its hard to hear much.. I'll pop the rear seat cushion off and try to get closer to it, and I'm also going to go check for a spark now.. thanks

easiest way to check your main relay is to see if it makes a clicking sound everytime you have your key turned to the ignition point, if it clicks then usually its good , if not then its bad or bad connection for sure...you should also check on sparks from your sparks and track it back to your distributor...a bad coil is a very common problem

yes that would be an easy way to know forsure.. or have someone else turn the key to on and put your hear near the pump on the bottom of the seat and listen should turn on and after a couple seconds turn off...

Alright I checked it out, the fuel pump DOES engage, kinda like a humming noise for a few seconds then turns off. Also I checked all of the plugs like jDmDxTuRd suggested and I am getting a spark. It worked with all 4 of them. One thing I noticed is that when I was putting the plugs back into the motor, when I went to clip the wires on top, it wasn't clicking/popping on. I'm wondering if the wire isn't on the plug tight enough or something. I'm gonna get new plugs and wires tonight and try it.

Any other ideas?

Well if youve got fuel and spark then your dist is most likely 180degrees out. Take it out turn the end of the dist gear 180 degrees then reinstall. Only way it could be out is if youve had it off before.

My friend changed the distributor cap recently. It would start sometimes, other times it wouldnt.. now it won't start at all. Could this be part of it?

I'm gonna check it out tomorrow, probably, and do the plugs and wires. I just went out and bought everything..

New plugs and wires are in and didn't change anything. I was about to remove the dist. cap but one of the screws is totally stripped so i'm gonna have to go back later with some more tools. Where is the dist. gear that I need to check out? Do I have to take out the whole distributor..? Because it hasn't been out any time recently, so it shouldnt be off..

check the coil, its inside the dstrbtor. its the piece that goes around the inside of the dstrbtor. if its worn out change. also play with the timing its probaly off. loosen the screws of the dstrbtor and play with the timing by using moving the dstrbtor up and down.

good luck
