Default Oil changes

When is everyone doing their oil changes? I've got a 2017 LX with the 1.5T. I was told ny a tech at the dealership where I bought it to go off of the on-board computer. If I use that, my first oil change will be at around 9,000 miles. Just curious as to how everyone else is going about oil change intervals. Stick with the usual 3,000 miles? Or go by the on-board computer?

3,000 miles has proven to be way too soon for a LONG time. That is a very old school way of going about. Use the on board computer and do it around 5-10% life left. At 2,000 miles on my CTR and says I am at 80%. So roughly at 9,000 is when I will do mine too.

I changed the oil in my Si at 5,942. Switched to Royal Purple 0w20 synthetic with a Honda filter. I rotated the tires too.

I saved an oil sample for Blackstone to test, but haven't sent it off yet.

Edit - MM was at 30 or 35% for oil life.

I agree. I change mine at about 6,000. I don't wait for the 15% to come into play. I trust oil , but not THAT much. Not on a turbo car.

Especially a turbo car with less than four quarts of oil. I changed my Fit's oil before the MM gave up too.

These 1.5Ts use a tad more than 4 quarts. you have to account for the turbocharger and the oil lines.

What filter is everyone using on their Civics? I was reading that the OEM is actually not that good.
